Confirmed today that there will only be 45 live matches shown between Sky Sports and RTE. 31 on RTE and 14 on Sky Sports. With the Round Robin format in Hurling and the Super Eights in Football this is not enough never mind the back door in Football. It's unacceptable, they really didn't think it through!!! oakleafersir (Derry) - Posts: 808 - 17/04/2018 22:57:20 2093687 Link 1 |
I think it confirms what many feared, there will be less coverage in the early rounds of the provincals and qualifiers for smaller counties and more exposure for the counties who hit the super 8s. Very short sighted in my opinion. Talk about lowering the profile of your product, especially with the new championship dates. People be salavating for GAA come May and the GAA will back load their games for the super 8s etc. Surely there is a huge market there going untapped. Even just give them to TG4 for a nominal fee, GAA really are cutting the lower league county's adrift. Wrong. TheUsername (Dublin) - Posts: 4445 - 17/04/2018 23:28:06 2093690 Link 0 |

Shocking is what it is. Would really make you wonder how people ever survived with only the All Ireland Semi Finals and Final being televised. It must have been like living in the Stone Age. I mean "only" 31 games on RTÉ. I am morally outraged!!!!

Disgrace I tell you. The Sky generation are so used to sitting on their posteriors with a big chunky remote control enforcing their "fans" status as never before. Get off said posterior and jump in a car and go watch whatever games you want and mix with real people and real fans and you might even enjoy the social aspect of it. bricktop (Down) - Posts: 2503 - 18/04/2018 09:49:16 2093721 Link 8 |
One minute we are complaining about seeling our games to the commercial world. The next minute complaining why sky arent showing the games. As someone else said get up and go to the matches and quit complaining. ZUL10 (Clare) - Posts: 693 - 18/04/2018 10:05:21 2093726 Link 2 |
Its not the 1950's though an the GAA inhabits a space fighting for exposure multi factorialy with other sports, both for finance, support, participation and exposure. It needs to be competitive in that expanse in order to grow and evolve. Even if its just kids in Carlow or Leitrim who cant get to the game for a variety of reasons, who have the oppurtunity to see their county. I really think GAA as a product is under developed.

It's not the 1980s anymore. Things change. MesAmis (Dublin) - Posts: 13710 - 18/04/2018 10:05:32 2093728 Link 1 |
Terrible! People might actually have to get off their backsides and go and support their counties now.

If you break down the numbers of RTE's coverage alone of 31 between 2 codes: keithlemon (Australia) - Posts: 920 - 18/04/2018 10:44:21 2093739 Link 2 |
Must take you all of 15 minutes to watch your county play all their games.

If they are going to show less of the earlier games then is confirms the viewership is too low. Ban (Westmeath) - Posts: 1415 - 18/04/2018 11:08:11 2093745 Link 0 |
Ah there is still a nice few games to be seen on telly in fairness, although doesn't both sky and RTÉ have the allireland semifinals and finals so there's a bit of a crossover there. In fairness if you were to get sky in for the summer how many games would you get that RTÉ wouldn't have?

Well.... Multiple camera angles close-ups of the action replays commentary (as long as it's not as gaeilge), analysis can pause action as required no need to be outdoors in all weather no need to get there early to get a good seat no travel time no parking headaches no traffic queues before or after no admission charges no-one standing up in front of you no 'entertainment' over a tinny tannoy no need to listen to opposition supporters (or even those from your own team) In my book, you can easily beat being there TearsIn85 (Monaghan) - Posts: 194 - 18/04/2018 11:51:06 2093765 Link 1 |
Thats your opinion but live action in front of your eyes and the whole atmosphere unfolding will never be beaten in my opinion!! NEVER! BigJohn.6_8 (Galway) - Posts: 704 - 18/04/2018 11:55:12 2093768 Link 3 |
For the big match days where there's a bit of atmosphee, sure For a Feburary league game or championship back door encounter at the other end of the country, not so much. TearsIn85 (Monaghan) - Posts: 194 - 18/04/2018 12:10:04 2093774 Link 0 |

I agree but how does someone from Fermanagh get to see a game in Munster? Or should Munster games only be watched by those in Munster?
