Missing Players For The 2018 Season

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

not including retired players, who is missing in action for their county for their county for this year through injury or other commitments. I'd just like to get an idea of what players will be missing for this year and for which team and why.
So far scanning through the counties I've noticed Armagh have been completely decimated by players dropping out. Donegal have lost a few too. In the hurling i've noticed the ;ikes of James Breen, Aaron Cunningham, Colin Fennelly, Paul Murphy and Shane Bennett havent been involved.
I'm sure there are many others throughout the counties that I'm not thinking of but I'd like to know.

10 or 12 lads from our football panel. And that's not including the lads who won't commit to the panel.

Off the top of my head:

Jason McGee - committed to u-20's
Eoin McHugh - Year Out
Micheal Carroll - Year Out

It remains to be seen if Niall O'Donnell will stick with the seniors or commit to the u-20's.

Silke is away to American for the summer, so will be a big miss for Galway.

And young Cillian McDaid has joined Carlton in the AFL.

Both talented defenders, especially McDaid. Definitely losses to the Galway panel.
How many corofin lads will be brought in?

To Be honest in my opinion I Think only Ian Burke will be pretty sure of gametime.
We have seen Corofin players come in before and its not a direct transition, the inter-county game is very different to club.
Steede, Farraghers, Molloy etc wont automatically be considered especially the way Kevin is playing quite systematically this year.
Incredible Club team tho.

His decision or Kevin's?
No question he is good enough.

McDaid was one of the most talented players we've produced at underage, had all the tools to be a great wingback. He's a huge loss, as well know it doesn't always work out over their so he may return down the line.

From the rumour mill there''s no guarantee Ian Burke will commit to the panel with him living in Dublin, just hope they can come to an agreement. I don't think he'd start against Mayo but if as I expect Mayo will play a sweeper he'd be a brilliant alternative in at full forward and would allow Comer drift out the pitch.

There's always a worry that an all Ireland winning club player won't commit after a victorious season in the club all Ireland. I think this is a huge source of worry for the Dublin Hurling team that a lot of the Chaka lads won't commit for the coming season

Also Roscommon seem to be missing some players from last season such as Cian Connolly and Sean Mullooly, Neil Collins nowhere to be seen as well.
I also heard that Cavan have lost a lot of last years squad

Where do I start. Wouldn't be a stretch to suggest that Derry are missing a full squad of county players for one reason or another.

The sad decline in interest in county football in Limerick means there are at least 8-10 club footballers who wont commit to playing for their county. In hurling Eoin Mc is in college in Dublin and wont commit - he would've had a great chance of disloging Nicky Quaid, Seanie Tobin is another who could make an impact but is not involved..

Silke will be a massive Losse for galway

In Laois with footballers here where I live now

the are missing real quality in

Cahir Healy (Committed to hurling)
Brendan Quigley injured
Conor Meridith (not available)
James Finn(in Dubai)
Paul Cahilanne(Playing LOI Soccer)
Danny O Reilly(was attacked in Carlow has a head injury that will finish his season)
Padraig McMahon(Retired)

The list for the hurlers is too long to even start .....

That was some article about Derry's troubles a few weeks ago in the Indo from Brolly.

The competition structure is hardly appealing for players in weaker Counties. The season was effectively over at the end of March this year.
