With today's announcement of the fixtures for this year's All-Ireland club finals, the football final will be played before the hurling for the first time in a long time. ah_free_out_ref (Galway) - Posts: 16 - 26/02/2018 16:30:06 2080619 Link 0 |
If Ireland are going for the grand slam in rugby it will impact attendance severely. Could be the lowest attendance in years. yew_tree (Mayo) - Posts: 11236 - 26/02/2018 17:11:43 2080645 Link 1 |
There wont be anyone from the 4 clubs in question missing these games over a rugby match

Only right the hurling being on second. It's very difficult to watch a good hurling game after a football game no matter if the football game was very good or not. Football is too slow to be shown after a good hurling game dubshurling7 (Dublin) - Posts: 1017 - 26/02/2018 17:25:09 2080651 Link 4 |
GAA are right to go ahead against the Rugby. Rugby is in Twickers. If it were at home i could understand objections. galwayford (Galway) - Posts: 2520 - 26/02/2018 17:25:40 2080653 Link 0 |
If it does, it won't say much for those staying away. It will be like making an official statement that we are "rugby country".

Of course fans from the clubs and counties will attend but I am talking about the neutral element both who would attend and watch on tv. yew_tree (Mayo) - Posts: 11236 - 26/02/2018 18:08:02 2080676 Link 1 |
No it wouldn't. Many neutrals who attend yearly may choose to go to or watch rugby. Myself included.

Yeah agreed, if there was nothing else on, many neutrals might choose to go to Croke Park, but if Ireland are playing at the same time, they may choose to go or watch Ireland. Doesn't mean we are a rugby country, just means that many GAA fans can be rugby fans too . county man (Limerick) - Posts: 1102 - 26/02/2018 22:33:10 2080776 Link 1 |
Maybe Scotland will do everyone a favour then :)

In fairness they can hardly change the times of the finals just because there happens to be a rugby match on the TV. MesAmis (Dublin) - Posts: 13718 - 27/02/2018 08:09:25 2080827 Link 2 |
Ah now Ulsterman, don't you know our rugby-loving GAA people will be as devastated as everyone in Dublin 4 if we don't beat Scotland and win the Triple Crown and prove ourselves the best team in that greater United Kingdom that we were once completely a part of. The Triple Crown is a really amazing achievement don't you know....

Maybe from 2019 they could have the finals on a bit later. Try to entice the many of thousands of tourists in Dublin up to Croke Park after the parade to see two cracking games of our fantastic sports. The club finals don't seem to be a part of the St. Patrick's Day festival but GAA is a massive part of of our culture. GreenandRed (Mayo) - Posts: 7360 - 27/02/2018 10:16:12 2080849 Link 2 |
It is not the greater United Kingdom it is the Home Nations we are part of. Proud members of the Emprie and it's passing of civialisation across the world.

You always see a good few tourists around Croker on Paddy's Day. It's something that is becoming more and more popular, sports tourism. I see a lot of tourists generally in or around Croker on match days come summer. Someone must be doing something right. Incidentally, German football hipsters love the League of Ireland. You can't go to a game in Dalyer or Richmond without spotting a few Germans! MesAmis (Dublin) - Posts: 13718 - 27/02/2018 12:17:51 2080886 Link 2 |
It is indeed Mes I couldn't think of a better way to spend Paddy's Day It's a family get together for ourselves and we've attended the finals for many a year now, but always better from a selfish point of view when there's a Dublin club in the mix.. the good and the bad days Cuala looking to make another bit of history for themselves and DublIn GAA Looking forward to it jimbodub (Dublin) - Posts: 20600 - 27/02/2018 12:24:42 2080892 Link 1 |
