15 v 14

(Oldest Posts First)

Just noticing all the big games of the weekend were won by the team with an extra man on the field at the finish; Galway,Kerry and mayo etc
. Donegal and Mon would probably have won 15 v 15. Almost impossible in modern football to win with a man less and discipline has to be high on agendas. First half yellow carders need to be subbed if possible.

Dubs under Gilroy practiced with 14

Since then Dublin have a good record playing 15 v 14 and have won most games when having a man sent off

Sue Moy have 24 starters when Séan Cavanagh plays for them.

the dubs are generally very successful when we are down to 14 men in recent years to the point of actually not losing confidence at all as a fan when we lose a player. I've actually seen games where we go down to 14 and perform better

I'm not sure if the League Sunday panel even mentioned the fact that Donegal played most of the game a man down, or that Paddy McBrearty was clearly the best player on the pitch. Why is that I wonder?

As I said up above

Another good win for Dublin while down a man away from home

What a team.

In fairness Dublin can do it cause they are potentially the best football team ever. Doesn't mean they wouldn't win by more with 15 v 15. But 95 per cent of teams really struggle with a man down and if they do eke out a win its a sign they were superior .

You'd think it'd be easier to come back against 13.

I started this topic a while back. Spring to mind again tonight . Tipperary losing by a point to Cavan and missing out on promotion after stupid red card in first half. Monaghan would probably be in league final too but for a stupid first half red in salthill . Teams work so hard only to let indiscipline cost them.

It was in the 2nd half, but yeah, it lost Tipp the game. Completely needless.

Every manager, from club to county, trains with 14 on 15. Common sense, at some stage you are going to get a man lined.
Discipline has become a big thing among managers, Mickey Harte usually subs defenders immediately if they get a yellow. Can't run the risk of going down to 14.
