What was going on in this one? dickie10 (UK) - Posts: 698 - 21/10/2017 19:50:26 2056867 Link 0 |
Amazed that someone was able to identify and decipher who the 10 worst offenders were in the heat of it

Never heard of 10 sent off in a game before? Is it a record? There was 7 sent off in a club game in monaghan last year. You have to ask what was the referee doing? He obviously had no control of the game whatsoever Monaghansclown (Monaghan) - Posts: 174 - 21/10/2017 22:37:14 2056896 Link 0 |

On a more serious note than in my last tweet, are there any rules that state that a game must be called off after a designated number of red cards are issued to one or both teams? neverright (Roscommon) - Posts: 1648 - 21/10/2017 23:01:17 2056905 Link 0 |
I don't think so. As far as i know the only rule is that a team must have fielded at least 15 players by the start of the second half. After that there is no rule relating to the numbers that need to be on the field to finish out the game.

You are having a laugh? Ten players sent off at different times and it's the referee who had no control? Says everything about what's wrong with the game.

Apparently not. RTÉ's story about the incident states... well here it is from the horse's mouth, the Official Guide Part 1: 6.44 Rules of Specification and Control - Penalties Penalties for breaches of the above Rules shall be as follows: (a) A team failing to field fifteen players, inclusive of players ordered off or retired injured, by the start of the second half of a game: Penalty : Forfeiture of Game and Award to the Opposing Team. Part 2 has this: 2.2 A team may commence a game with thirteen players but shall have fielded fifteen players, inclusive of players ordered off or retired injured, by the start of the second half. In the event of failure to comply with this, the game shall continue. So in theory the game could end up as 1 versus 15 following a mass brawl among the members of one team after 5 minutes, and the referee would have to officiate 55 or 65 minutes of a circus. Also, RTÉ'S report says that all the yellow and red cards were justified. Tacaí Liatroma (Leitrim) - Posts: 1053 - 22/10/2017 04:51:54 2056922 Link 0 |
Ten players sent off in a Leinster club game and it's the refs fault. 3 players sent off in an ulster club game and ulster football is a disgrace! mayotyroneman (Tyrone) - Posts: 1821 - 22/10/2017 09:08:08 2056930 Link 4 |
There was also disgraceful scenes in a game involving Crossabeg Ballymurn and the North Dublin side Man of War. I wonder should they re title their club Men of War.

If 10 sent off isn't enough to warrant abandoning a game, I doubt it. The rule makers of Gaelic Football no doubt took it as a given that the ball would be an essential part of every game and are most unlikely to have legislated for a scenario where more than that are dismissed. Think boxing gloves would have been the most essential gear to have in that game!

And this is why we are condensing the inter county game to promote rubbish like this in September instead. hill16no1man (Dublin) - Posts: 12665 - 22/10/2017 10:24:55 2056953 Link 2 |
I listened to the match on the local radio and it appeared that the man in charge hadn't a clue and please don not tell me that all Refs are good - there are some very poor ones just as there are very poor footballers who go out every week to play.

I was also at game. Ref seemed very nervous from start and booked too many players early. Especially in the awful underfoot conditions some fouls were just fouls and no need at all for yellows. In his favour I presume he was being watched and adjudicated as most are at this level and he completely applied the letter of the law. Once game got to 13 a side the Kilbride full back on a yellow fouled Niall Conlon who was running away to score. I think when he didn't get 2nd yellow then other Kilbride players thought he wasn't giving out any more yellows and they were free to foul even if on a yellow already. They were obviously wrong. Most 2nd yellows all deserved though. Has to be said most straight reds also deserved. Definately not even the dirtiest game I saw this year never mind ever. One red each would probably be fair reflection of what went on.

I never said there were not bad referees but to instantly blame ten red cards on the referee is beyond belief - and shows that a lot of people stll think that its not the players responsibility to play the in a fair manner

If it wasn't for the rubbish like this as you put it there wouldn't be inter county football the club is everything and is what the GAA is actually about and the club scene means far more to most GAA people in the country so condensing the IC season makes perfect sense to allow club season finish at a respectable time of the year
