The Super 8

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Interesting looking groups and the semi final pairings are anyone's guess. Group 2 you'd have to fancy Dublin to top the group but second place is less clear. Donegal, Tyrone and Roscommon will all fancy their chances. McBrearty is a big loss for Donegal but they still have plenty of talent. Tyrone and Roscommon going very well too so we could have some great tight games in store.
Group 1 another close call. You'd have to fancy Monaghan to join the group today and hopefully if they do they can bury their CP hoodoo and play to their full potential. Kildare building a nice head of steam too and if they can keep it going could be a surprise packet this summer. I'd still have Galway and Kerry favourites to progress with Kerry to top the group but despite all their enviable talent they still have a bit of the unknown about them. But the other 3 have probably a bigger monkey on their backs when it comes to late championship football so it's all to play for and a great chance for some of these teams to come of age this summer.

They won't have it handy but having two games at home should be enough to tilt it in their direction.

Where was the motion at congress to stop the Big Smoke getting two home games? County boards have to our up or shut up.

Exactly. Donegal have made fools out of themselves over this and really they and their supporters should move on.

There was a time and a place to debate and oppose this and they said nothing.

Not complaining at all, just saying that in a competitive group every thing makes a difference.

I'm looking forward to going to Croke Park next weekend.

Never was a poster better named.

Far from making fools of themselves, Donegal succeeded in getting a commitment to a full review of the Super 8's at the end of the year.

If only other counties were so pro-active & forward thinking.

The GAA are making it up as they go along. Donegal were the opponents affected and complained. Fair play in someways though, there are county boards who would have rolled over in similar circumstances.

Is Breffni still not out of commission, No? Probably a fairly moot discussion 18 months after the first weekend venue was confirmed but hopefully 2019 we can see the changes.

Almost everything you want to know about the Super 8s! It's head-to-head and not points difference to decide group positions. I'm just wondering will RTE and Sky Sports have some new Super 8 sponsors.

Look I know that my fellow county men will lambast me for saying this but I feel that we have the team to finally win the big one. We have already beaten kerry, our forward unit are superior to galways and in fairness to kildare, we should hardly be shaking with fear at a team who were hammered by carlow. I see us winning our group and, with Roscommon who can't defend to save their lives, one forward Donegal minus that forward, and an overly defensive Tyrone as potential opponents, I see us making the final. Dublin would agree that we are the one team that are capable of defeating them in a one off game in croke park. Why not believe.

Yep, Carlow hammered us.

You never mentioned how Monaghan fared against Fermanagh ?

Every now & again a post appears that leaves me shaking my head & wondering at what some fellas might be ingesting in the middle of the working week.

One forward Donegal?

This is the team that scored 2-18 against a Fermanagh team that Monaghan scored 0-12 against with that "one forward" scoring 0-1.

If ever a team could be accused of being a one forward team it's Monaghan & we all saw what happened when he was kept quiet. Disaster followed.

Ok maybe that was a bit too harsh on Donegal. I still think that our forwards minus Mcmanus are better that Donegal minus Mcbrearty. I stand by my opinion that we are a better team than yous regardless of this year's Ulster. Monaghan, after the success of this year's league are it seems attempting to peak in late July early August. Donegal peaked for Ulster.

I would have thought the likes of yourself could spot an obvious wind up when he seen one, rather than throwing back more insults.

A poster claiming to be from Monaghan saying we should be winning Sam in his first post? You're better than believing in that Muckross...

Wrong there comrade. I'm the real deal. I genuinely believe we have the stuff to go all the way. I think that most real Monaghan supporters are of a similar opinion. Some like you seem to be waiting for us to fall so that you can say i told you so.

Couldn't affort to take a chance Patk.

If these young fellas aren't shown the error of their ways early in their posting lives, God knows where it might end up.
