I think Johnny Heaney (Galway) has just made a nonsense of any argument of hand slapping a goal. Great goal Sindar (Roscommon) - Posts: 348 - 22/07/2017 19:38:59 2021056 Link 0 |

They were caught and then thrown in surely??? Great goals and Galway are playing some great stuff. GreenandRed (Mayo) - Posts: 7360 - 22/07/2017 20:13:40 2021092 Link 1 |
well for "handslap goals" they were good goals..if you could say such a thing that is...Kerry wont leave much room for handslap goals next weekend I bet...

You'd need to ask one of the Kerry team that one.

Yes indeed, the hand slap is alive and well after last weekend :( ........What a crap way to end a great team move. The GAA needs to get their act together on this one.

It's a great way to end a team move as you end it with a sure goal, take away the hand slap and you decrease the chances of that great teamwork being reward. GAA supporters really are some of the biggest whingers of all sports fans.the amount of complaining over trivial stuff that the changing of which would ahve no benefit is ridiculous. uibhfhaili1986 (Offaly) - Posts: 1296 - 25/07/2017 08:30:11 2022961 Link 2 |
OK so maybe it looks dodgy sometimes but its legal and part of the game currently. timmyhogan (UK) - Posts: 290 - 25/07/2017 09:33:59 2022994 Link 0 |
Everything evolves - that's the law! If anyone is trying to show a youngster that GAA football is a classy sport that produces skillful goals they'll show footage of Mulligans classic goal against the Dubs or some other piece of footballing brilliance. They certainly won't impress anyone with a hand slap goal, by saying "look at how well the team worked the ball up the field" - stop the rot before its too late.

midfielders break high balls down by slapping it towards one of their players - its fair game in that instance... but you don't see a short pass hand slapped onto another player (at least not yet anyway!)

Yes, because you can hand pass?

Not every aspect of a sport hs to look classy. There are numerous great goals in soccer that are scored by a tap in after team work, nobody has an issue with them and why would they. This thread just deals with a nonensense non issue. uibhfhaili1986 (Offaly) - Posts: 1296 - 25/07/2017 13:51:39 2023223 Link 2 |
if I want to see good slam dunks I'll watch basketball.

Why do you want to change leave football alone changing rules every year us aloada muck
Tarismelting22 (Roscommon) - Posts: 760 - 25/07/2017 15:08:20 2023281 Link 0 |
They are not slam dunks. The ball is being slapped out of the air into the net. uibhfhaili1986 (Offaly) - Posts: 1296 - 25/07/2017 15:12:59 2023285 Link 0 |
The rule should at least be changed to single open hand. The two handed slap just removes any basic level of skill, and makes it easier to fool the ref by fouling the ball. Forpucksake (UK) - Posts: 130 - 25/07/2017 15:32:34 2023300 Link 1 |
Or the rule should be left as it is because the only a few GAA cranks seem to have a problem with it. It takes no skill to kick the ball over the bar from 15 or 20 metres out, should that be banned also? uibhfhaili1986 (Offaly) - Posts: 1296 - 25/07/2017 21:08:00 2023483 Link 0 |
Why would you want to ban kicking the ball over the bar from 15 or 20 yards? That's stupid? Fouling the ball by throwing it into the net, which a lot of these double-hand "slaps" are, should not be allowed though. Gavvygavgav (Dublin) - Posts: 383 - 25/07/2017 21:46:06 2023498 Link 0 |
It's no more stupid than banning a goal being slapped into the net which has been of the game forever. That's the point I was making. uibhfhaili1986 (Offaly) - Posts: 1296 - 26/07/2017 05:44:37 2023616 Link 1 |
Start giving actual examples of goals scored oboe the last few seasons where the ball was thrown into the net to at least try and prove your point. Get onto YouTube there and post us up some links to a goal scored in football by the ball being thrown in. I've a feeling your going to either completely ignore this or come back with examples that'll you'll just claim are throws when they are clearly not.
