Brolly gives Down a free pass

Whelan is a poor pundit.

Talked about how he expected Gavin Doogan to track back against down 2 minutes after the teams were named with Doogan not starting.
Dolan beside him was as bad if not worse.

Despite what you think about this, it is a fair point Brolly makes. You cant have one set of rules for an underdog team who everyone likes and another set of rules for the favorites or any other team for that mater. I think that there are so many inconsistencies in the refereeing of the game that it is impossible to be balanced.

Frank McGlynn took an extra step in the first half against Tyrone and was deemed to have over carried. This probably was the case, but it happens so often in the game where a player takes 2 or 3 extra steps and gets away with it, that the steps rule is in fact a derelict rule at this stage. Same for toe under the ball. Same for physical tackling. Where is the line?

We have in fact a game where a referee's job is to keep the books balanced, keep a team in the game for as long as possible. Dare I say it, manufacture a draw where possible? certainly was the case in years gone by.

If you look at the incident Walshe dives in front of the Down player at no stage does walshe make contact with the player, the Down player makes contact with Walshe.

Replying To Pope_Benedict:  "Brolly made a stupid point that the referee 'did well' by not refereeing it at all! The referee had a shocker, what I saw of it. It was never a penalty, the Down lad could play in the Premiership, just deliberately initiated contact & fell over a prone player who was attempting a clean block, or possibly even worse had to slightly fall over to initiate that contact. Terrible referee, not to spot that. I'm surprised that it hasn't been highlighted by 'pundits'. He must have realised he'd been conned on the peno, because he gave Monaghan a good few wrong decisions in the last 10mins. I thought he was trying to draw it. Unconvincing refereeing performance imo."
Completely irrevelevant whether or not the defender meant to take out Donnelly for the penalty. He impeded him from continuing on towards goal, and thus it was a definite penalty. I note you don't mention Turley staying on his feet while being fouled before hitting the ball into the keepers hands in the first half? Martin McHugh described him as being "too honest".

So on that token I could slide in front of McManus running through on goal. But no penalty, as McManus ran into me?? Walshe impeded Donnelly whether he meant it or not, penalty, no debate.

That's exactly what I saw too. Never a penalty, and had a critical impact on the shape of game, and the end result. This penalty mistake was never mentioned on the Sunday Game panel last night, and I think the Saturday brigade couldn't spot the problem either.

It was extremely soft, he fell over Walshe. Walshe dived in expecting a shot to be taken Donnolly dummies him and then fall over him.

To be honest I was more concerned about the late hits and nothing being done about it.

Another day Down players would have paid the price for them hits.

Down didn't get punished that's not their fault. Fair play to them for getting away with it. I wish Down all the best in the final and hope Down wins.

There's been a story on social media all day that NASA are about to announce evidence of alien life form. Well it's obvious they are already here and running a parallel universe in the GAA and media. A parallel universe where Dublin are descendants of the Angel Gabriel and Tyrone hail from the darkest, hottest part of Hades. The hypocrisy, duplicity and double standards are just stomach churning and nauseating in the extreme. Brolly is now a fully fledged part of the Establishment media that just doesn't criticise Dubln.

Defo penalty he may have tried to block in good conscious however when he wasn't able to block he impeded the player. He took the risk it didn't come off on other days he would have been a hero but the Down player was definitely stopped in his tracks illegally.
