Of course they know what he's at. They have proven themselves to be smart men as well as smart footballers but it's still a proven tactic that works. Alex Ferguson did it 20 years!

I don't see why it's so funny and all the posters are wrong. If a group are told often enough that the media, Kerry men etc are conspiring against you it suits a lot of players to believe that. You appeal to the lowest common denominator, tribalism. While players know in their mind Dermo is no angel, if the narrative is presented as 'more sinned against than sinning' and he's one of our own of course a group will close ranks. How long this type of motivation lasts for is another question. Probably better at all ireland semi or final stage. But to lol at it is to misunderstand human behaviour and group dynamics. Why would a rational, savy man like Gavin engage in it if not? Laois76 (Laois) - Posts: 1270 - 27/06/2017 11:40:27 2006225 Link 5 |
The siege mentality existed long before Ferguson. It's used by every sports team at every level. It's the oldest trick in the book. It's yellow pack sports psychology. Anyone that fall for that at this stage is crazy. Even those poked Dublin tigers :) Am I on my own in thinking that perhaps Jim's incoherent rant is more about the future than the past? Priceless stuff - It must have been some heat in your glass house over the last couple of weeks Listen you've a massive chip on your shoulder when it comes to Dublin but sure we'll soon see how much respect Tyrone has for Dublin when you put 14 behind the ball... jimbodub (Dublin) - Posts: 20600 - 27/06/2017 12:42:26 2006252 Link 2 |

"if your opponent is of choleric temper, seek to irritate him" Sun Tzu at around 500BC, but sure that was before DC and Hill came along. a timeless philosophy needs rewritten for this exceptional circumstance. SaffronDon (Antrim) - Posts: 2385 - 27/06/2017 14:09:30 2006311 Link 5 |
The linesman thought nothing of the incident, the ref thought nothing of the incident. Then after the game in my own opinion they had a change of heart, and because social media was saying "Connolly pushed ref". The Pat Spillane said it was a 12 week ban. And the lads comparing Murphy giving the official verbals to Connolly actually confronting the linesman is just hilarious. Totally different. I can't believe Gavin has reignited the flames again, tiresome. TheFlaker (Mayo) - Posts: 7899 - 27/06/2017 16:33:04 2006396 Link 5 |
Anyone who believes that the CCCC are not influenced by a pundit quoting the rule, section , punishment etc. also believe in alternative facts and fake news. The bottom like is that all incidents should be dealt with on the field of play with the team of officials appointed to control the game. It should be under extreme circumstances where a player is injured that a review takes place. Connolly should not have been suspended as no action was taken on the field. Bennett should not have been suspended because no action was taken on the field and he did not injure anyone. It is hay making day for these pundits when the game gets played off the field. We here it said these commentators are just doing their job. Well if so hi- light the treatment these players are getting before they react. No because they can not exert the same influence as re running the tape and quoting the rule book. Canuck (Waterford) - Posts: 2660 - 27/06/2017 17:37:27 2006428 Link 1 |

Pat Spillane did his job, have to side with the Kerryman. Everybody loves Jim Gavin but he has taken the wrong fork in the road over the Connolly matter. All players get "due process" regardless of what is said on the telly or written in the papers. suckvalleypaddy (Galway) - Posts: 1669 - 27/06/2017 17:51:55 2006435 Link 3 |
calm down lad. Don't be getting so wound up. I didn't mine respect in general I meant on these Connolly incident. And trust me I know what Tyrone players have done. As bad as the dubs and every other team. You didn't answer any of my questions though. Why did Jim talk about the two boys occupation's? Why didn't he criticise the sky sports presenters?
