3 months?? for a bit of verbal on the sideline? I guess at this stage we dont know what was said but regardless, nobody was assulted or seriously injured. SaffronDon (Antrim) - Posts: 2406 - 26/04/2017 11:53:57 1982823 Link 3 |
Ban McGeeny , Ban Davy , Ban Connolly , ever since the ban on foreign sports we haven't been allowed to let go, we love a good ban Damothedub (Dublin) - Posts: 5193 - 26/04/2017 12:14:13 1982830 Link 1 |
I think we are saffrondon, like I've said in a few posts already the cccc haven't taken any action against Philly McMahon James McCarthy Michael McCauley or donnacha Walsh for their incidents in the league final nearly 3 weeks ago. It looks very dodgy indeed how there is justice for some but not for all. KingdomBoy1 (Kerry) - Posts: 14092 - 26/04/2017 12:26:59 1982841 Link 2 |
How does he get 12 weeks for this and Davy gets 8 weeks for going onto a pitch and starting a row with players! TheHermit (Kerry) - Posts: 6354 - 26/04/2017 12:50:00 1982848 Link 3 |
i sometimes wonder is there any criteria that they follow or do they just go with whatever way the wind blows. You're right about the players you mentioned. Suspending Mattie Donnelly and then going MIA after the league final further adds to their incompetence.

Anyone at the game or have any idea what he said? It must have been a fairly nasty incident to warrant a ban 4 weeks longer than one handed to a fella confronting players on the pitch! I assume he'll miss all of Armagh's Ulster championship games? TheHermit (Kerry) - Posts: 6354 - 26/04/2017 14:32:08 1982896 Link 0 |
Have you any examples of managers getting suspended for less than 12 weeks for threatening an official? The rulebook makes it very clear that the minimum suspension if found guilty is 12 weeks.

speaking to someone who was at the match he said it was a bad tempered game with a lot of cards but the ref was quick to draw the cards from his pocket which added to the tension in the game. He never noticed McGeeney in an altercation with an official but he is being charged under rule 7.2 for abusive conduct towards an official. I just dont understand why Davy Fitz gets 4 weeks less in all of this. Its the inconsistency that is a major concern ahead of what will no doubt be another controversial summer at this rate.

well there's this fella known as Davy Fitz who ran onto the field to shout abuse at a ref and got involved in an altercation with a player last week. he got less than 12 weeks!

I have heard of him. The rulebook is clear on that as well - a team official found guilty of abusing a referee gets a minimum ban of 4 weeks. A team official found guilty of any type of physical interference with an opposing player gets a minimum of 8 weeks. Davy was found guilty of the second offence and got 8 weeks, if he does it again the punishment increases. The rulebook is very clear on all of this, its not rocket science. There is a good reason why threatening a referee or linesman is a minimum suspension of 12 weeks. I don't know what McGeeney done or if he deserved to be found guilty but the punishment is very clearly set out.

Davy ran onto the field, had a go at the ref, then gets involved with a player but only gets charged with one offence. He was guilty of both which would have meant 12 weeks, not 8. If the rules are so clear then why does the cccc continue to make a dogs *rse of them? Look at the amount of other incidents people are talking about and you'll see things are far from policed according to the rule book.

What does 'threatening a linesman' actually mean? If, for instance, you were to advise him to pay a visit to Specsavers, would that be deemed to be a threat? neverright (Roscommon) - Posts: 1648 - 26/04/2017 16:59:50 1982948 Link 0 |
If you get 12 weeks you do something wrong. Simple as. If it is the same rule for everybody it's fair enough but it's not and that's when it becomes a problem. rorysboys (Donegal) - Posts: 2424 - 26/04/2017 17:00:22 1982949 Link 0 |
Ye are all off yere heads. Abusing a linesman is way worse than what David Fitzgerald did. 12 weeks for abusing a match official is about right. icehonesty (Wexford) - Posts: 2553 - 26/04/2017 17:36:03 1982958 Link 1 |
In situations like Davys the more serious offence is dealt with which is why he got a 8 week suspension. You might disagree with the rulebook but it is clear how they determined the length of each suspension. They are policing exactly as laid out in the rulebook yet people are complaing about a lack of consistency, its bizarre stuff.

does the rule book state that the cccc can pick and chose which games they decide to take action on?

If the GAA put as much effort into getting people to play as they do in getting people not to play the games would be in a far better place.
