It will be a nice weekend for anyone that will be travelling over in a few weeks time for the match. Its something I'm unable to attend unfortunately as I couldn't get time of work. I wonder if New York will finally pull the shock we have all been waiting for , it would give the GAA something to worry about and it would be something to look forward to. I think New York could get the win here as they were so close last year, there will be more hunger in them to get the win. Roll on the 7th of May. oakleafersir (Derry) - Posts: 808 - 21/04/2017 21:47:31 1981578 Link 0 |

not a chance of New York winning. Sligo will remember what happened to them in Ruislip a few years ago. They will not be complacent. s goldrick (Cavan) - Posts: 5518 - 24/04/2017 17:25:27 1982295 Link 0 |
I'm not too sure about that Goldrick. We have a serious habit of complacency. We are staying for an extra week there too for a training camp. Its set up for a disaster. republican (Sligo) - Posts: 326 - 25/04/2017 19:06:17 1982634 Link 0 |
Pity New York are out after one game GAA should consider giving them a second chance. I know financially it's a burden but the GAA are well able to afford it without the Connaught CB footing the bill. WildPundit (Tipperary) - Posts: 1709 - 25/04/2017 21:37:06 1982685 Link 0 |
Johnny Glynn was one of the key players when they ran Roscommom close last year. He is commuting to play with Galway hurlers now. Is there many from last years team still there? FoolsGold (Cavan) - Posts: 2763 - 26/04/2017 10:32:41 1982790 Link 0 |
Tom Cunniffe of Mayo is out there playing for them now. Played against Donegal in their challenge match there a week or so ago. Cunniffe away from his fullback role and further up the pitch. New York to beat Sligo by 2 points. Mayo to possibly go untested until Pearse stadium. Not good. IsThisOurYear (Mayo) - Posts: 10 - 26/04/2017 14:06:53 1982882 Link 0 |
Wow a week in New York. That's nice. It's going to be difficult to keep a rein on those lads. Lot's of distractions.

Up to us to deal with whatever team we play be it tested or not. Rochford won't have them thinking beyond either New York or Sligo.

I dont think Glynn was too effective for them last year. I think Gallagher from Mayo did the damage around the middle

But do we not get a by if new York win. Wasn't this discussed by the council last year after roscommon? In that case it is something management and players must look at surely. Cant wait for that game in galway either way. Should be a cracker. Cant wait to get annoyed at not being able to find parking haha

Would probably end up the same way as when New York's hurlers won in the Ulster Championship a few years back, Mayo to travel to NY with their county board footing the bill. They have too many undocumented players to be travelling to Ireland for championship games.

I think Luke Loughlin was key for New York last year at wing forward. Caused rossies a lot of trouble on the ball. I'm looking forward to this game I think it'll be tight.

Gleebo - might have been true a few years ago but not now. the vast majority of them are able to travel. If they happen to win they have full intentions of fulfilling fixture in mayo. Was at the two games against Donegal last week and they played reasonably well considering it was their first game in a year and against a Division 1 team and believe me Donegal were not there to give them a soft game. Most, if not all of the New York team have played Inter County football and while there are always a lot of changes year to year with players moving on hopes are high of pulling off an upset. These games tend to vary between tankings and close runs. But for every year that NY keep it respectable, there's 5 years where they get hosed by 15 points plus. There's no pattern to them really, if anything I reckon that since it was so close last year, Sligo will win by 10+ this year. CastleBravo (Meath) - Posts: 1650 - 26/04/2017 18:07:09 1982972 Link 0 |
Was at both challenge matches vs Donegal in Gaelic Park…while NY looked decent in certain areas, when the Donegal forwards ran at them they were to quick to stay with. Honestly will cheer on NY to upset Sligo, but after almost beating Rossies last year, doubt Sligo will come out complacent and flat. NY lost there 2 biggest players from last years match, Luke Loughlin and Darren Freeman. Luke did a lot of the tough work from around middle of park and Darren took some nice scores. Most of this years team are new enough to NY, even the former captain is on the bench. Great to see Shane Hogan playing as well as he is. True product of the Bronx and having a GAA family. All i can say is, COME HON NEW YORK!!!! NarrowBack914 (USA) - Posts: 181 - 26/04/2017 21:23:18 1983012 Link 0 |
Still not the better of that weekend last year somewhat for the off field activities but mainly for the game itself where I really thought we were cooked and spent the last desperate 10 minutes trying to figure out strategies for how to face my dear Mayo co-workers on return to the office. facethepuckout (Roscommon) - Posts: 215 - 26/04/2017 22:20:17 1983028 Link 0 |
I think Sligo will have enough to get through. The close call last year for the Rossies will focus the minds.. Sligo by 6 or 7 unclegerry (Mayo) - Posts: 1222 - 27/04/2017 11:43:58 1983098 Link 0 |

Things don't look good at all for Sligo anyways. It's good news for NewYork. oakleafersir (Derry) - Posts: 808 - 02/05/2017 16:33:03 1983996 Link 0 |
