Is aussie rule contracts getting more and more rejected by young players? Looking at players that have tried and succeed is very small. But players that have come back after a year or two seem to be very different players. Tommy walsh for example. I know he has a few bad injuries but in gaa I would fully expect him back to his best. He was the best player in the country before he left. Seem to completely knock the confidence out of him. He could have some advice for young clifford!!! .tribute (Cavan) - Posts: 360 - 19/04/2017 07:55:06 1980659 Link 0 |
John Heslin is doing alright. Then again he was out there less than a year I think. Jack_Sparrow (Westmeath) - Posts: 1019 - 19/04/2017 10:04:21 1980684 Link 0 |
Michael Quinn, probably Longfords main player right now. james2011 (Wexford) - Posts: 602 - 19/04/2017 10:48:31 1980698 Link 0 |
Dan Flynn is always one game away from an injury. Sean Hurley has recently returned home crocked too.

Niall McKeever has done little to improve our squad since returning.

Kilkenny was over there a wet weekend in fairness. Shields from Cork?

If your theory has any merit, I doubt it has anything to do with returning players losing confidence. Probably would have more to do with changing perspectives. Presumably even as trainee Rules players they get paid, are part of a totally professional set up and have every whim catered for. In that situation, I can imagine coming back to Ireland, putting in a similar amount of training as the Aussie pros do, but having to hold down a full time job as well, and to do all this purely for the glory of the county, would not have quite the same appeal.

Caolan Mooney was a very bright prospect before he went to Collingwood. It has taken him a while to get established as a county footballer since being back.

Have to agree, what I notice is that a lot of the players returning that have been over there for a number of years no longer have a natural kick of the ball. woops (Kerry) - Posts: 2073 - 20/04/2017 16:38:12 1981204 Link 1 |
There skillset is not as good when they return. Nicholas Walsh was a very good Cavan minor, the few years in Australia put him back alot. FoolsGold (Cavan) - Posts: 2763 - 21/04/2017 10:15:32 1981366 Link 0 |

So you can't be very passionate if a professional or as passionate compared to an amatuer player? What a load of nonsense ormondbannerman (Clare) - Posts: 13473 - 22/04/2017 11:23:57 1981630 Link 0 |
Off course you can, but that's not what was being implied there. You've misinterpreted the post and created a theory that was never there to begin with.

Was listening to an OTB podcast last night with Niall Quinn. Never knew he went to Australia as a young lad for trials and was offered two contracts before being signed by Arsenal. He didn't receive the offers in time due to a postal strike, bet he is glad. GeniusGerry (Kerry) - Posts: 2105 - 22/04/2017 14:29:17 1981669 Link 0 |

How is Ciaran Sheehan from Cork doing? One of Cork's best players.
