Tyrone hit Antrim for eight goals as they opened their Ulster U20 football championship campaign in emphatic fashion this afternoon.
It finished 8-16 to 0-7 in Dunsilly, where the Red Hands were in relentless form having struck four goals inside the opening half-hour with Gavin Potter, Oisin Gormley and Eoin McElhom amongst the scorers.
Paul Devlin’s lads would keep their foot on the throttle after the change of ends towards a massive 33-point first round victory.
In Newry, Derry handed holders Down an opening 2-14 to 0-9 defeat in what was a repeat of last year’s provincial decider in the grade.
Oisin Doherty’s goal late in the first-half saw the Oak Leafers towards a 1-5 to 0-4 interval lead, and they’d outscore their Mourne counterparts by 0-4 to 0-1 in the first 10 minutes of the second-half before pushing on for the 11-point win.
In Ederney, Armagh got off to a winning start by handing hosts Fermanagh a 1-10 to 0-7 defeat.
The Orchard County produced a sizzling first-half display that saw them up by 1-8 to 0-1 come the break and they wouldn’t be caught from there.
Wednesday night sees the remaining Round 1 fixture in the competition down for decision as Cavan welcome Donegal to Kingspan Breffni (8pm).
