Breakfast Club for Young People at Kilkeel Summer Scheme

Daily approximately 50 young people attending a summer scheme 10.30am to 1.30pm Monday to Friday operated by the Kingdom Youth Club are getting breakfast and a light lunch at their Dunavil Road premises.

The food is being funded jointly by the Kingdom YC and the local conference of the Society of St Vincent de Paul. SVP spokesman, Seamus Mullan, said that the Society had become involved to ensure that children who get free school meals during school term time don’t miss out during the holiday period. Youth Club Leader Jennifer Spiers said we are proud to run this fantastic initiative in partnership with St Vincent de Paul. This is a great resource for many families in the area and has been greatly received by parents and young people. The Kingdom YC would like to thank St Vincent de Paul for this opportunity and look forward to working with them again in the future.

Thanks to ASDA for the contribution of refreshments for the summer scheme.

There are some big activities coming up in the summer scheme this week with the visit of the ever popular Aunt Sandra’s Chocolate Factory on Thursday and Go Fly Your Kite on Tuesday sandwiching a visit to Tayto Park on Friday. Last week Sherman Hall’s Basketball Camp yet again went down a treat and the first ever trip to Jumping Jacks will be repeated again soon.

Its mid-August and thoughts are already turned to the autumn-winter programme at the youth club, if you have any suggestions for activities please get in touch with any of the youth workers and we will do our best to include your ideas. Also, anyone interested in volunteering and working as part of a team with a youth support worker in delivering any programme should let us know so vetting etc can be completed in time.

PIPS will run ASSIST training at KYC on Wednesday 9th & Thursday 10th October 9am to 4pm.
