Meath twins Thomas and Daragh McGovern are nephews of legendary Northern Ireland soccer goalkeeper Pat Jennings.
The Donaghmore Ashbourne siblings were part of the Royal County squad that made significant strides during the course of 2019, securing promotion to Division One, reaching the Leinster final and also contesting the Super 8s for the first time.
Their uncle, regarded as one of the best goalies of all time, was born in County Down and represented Northern Ireland no fewer than 119 times, his remarkable club career seeing him make a total of 709 first-team appearances for North London rivals Tottenham and Arsenal between 1964 and 1985. Jennings also played in the 1986 World Cup at the age of 41 – a record at the time.
Uniquely, the McGoverns are one of two sets of twins on the Meath senior panel, with Summerhill brothers Ross and Ronan Ryan also part of Andy McEntee’s set-up.Tweet
