Mark Duffy feels Scotstown are “in a better position” to challenge for the Ulster Club SFC title in 2018.

The perennial Monaghan champions were edged out by Crossmaglen after extra time in the 2015 provincial decider and are still seeking their first Ulster club crown since 1989. They continue their 2018 campaign against Burren of Down on Sunday.

“Since Cross’ beat us it hasn't went well,” experienced defender Duffy told The Irish News. “I think we in a better position to go at it. We have been on the ropes. We had injuries and it wasn't a realistic chance for us.

“The minimum requirement is to have everybody fit and playing and at least we have that this year.

“It wouldn't be a case of comparing us to teams that are in it. We have confidence in ourselves that we are quite experienced.

“We came through a very tough championship in Monaghan and I think that will stand to us, with four really tough games. We feel we are in a good place at the moment. We seem to be improving game on game so that gives you more confidence.”
