McGee: money can't buy strength between the ears

It's "wrong and disrespectful" to use money as an argument to dilute Dublin's four-in-a-row achievement, according to Eamon McGee.

McGee and his Donegal team-mates experienced something similar following their 2012 All-Ireland final triumph over Mayo.

In his weekly Irish Daily Star column, the defender recalls: “When we won the All-Ireland in 2012, all the talk was of the system. Donegal won because of the ‘system’. The McGees would be found out only for the ‘system’. It was all about Jim McGuinness and the ‘system’.

“In my weaker moments, that bugged me because we had a team with very good players and a couple of great ones.

“To put it all down to a ‘system’ was disrespectful. It’s the same story with Dublin. Saying they're successful because of money is both wrong and disrespectful.”

In the Gweedore clubman's opinion, the Dubs are dominant because of their relentless commitment and the fact that they have “the best players, the best management and coaches, and they’re supported by a good County Board”.

He concludes: “I’ve seen too many good players not push themselves and refuse to come out of the comfort zone. That requires strength between the two ears and all the money in the world can’t buy that.”
