Well he obviously won't be managing Westport anymore. Horan is a smart man. I'm sure he doesn't think it's a matter of rounding up his team from 2014 and winning Sam. There are plenty of good young footballers in the county. Most people are hoping James will do what he did with Keegan, Boyle, McLoughlin etc and bring these young lads to the next level. Lol his Westport commitments? You must really know your stuff lad. You think he is double jobbing? Horan was the better choice. Solan has time on his side so if you think there is no All Ireland in the current squad isn't it better Solan didn't get it. If Solan comes again I would hope he isn't coming with Billy Sheehan as part of his team!! TheFlaker (Mayo) - Posts: 7907 - 06/10/2018 16:46:35 2145378 Link 0 |
Couldn't get the job done serious re write of history through the eyes of a premiership soccer fan , one coach wins an all Ireland every year therefore every other coach is a failure, bullshi7

One thing I'd say is Horan is a better manager than the man he's replacing but really can't see him being able to deliver Sam for Mayo over the next 4 years or even come close. If he does it will be an incredible achievement. PoolSturgeon (Galway) - Posts: 1904 - 07/10/2018 15:35:26 2145426 Link 0 |
He did his very best the last time out with what was probably the greatest Mayo side of all time jimbodub (Dublin) - Posts: 20600 - 07/10/2018 16:43:18 2145430 Link 1 |
It would be fair to say this Mayo squad on current form and age are behind Dublin but Horan also knows that they are probably also good enough to make it back to a final. Nobody from the chasing pack is ahead of Mayo in my eyes, it is wide open.

Fair enough assessment. Fair play to him for taking it on again.

Great to see Horan back, hope to replace Roscommon as number two in the west. maroondiesel (Mayo) - Posts: 1197 - 07/10/2018 21:24:09 2145477 Link 0 |
The greatest Mayo team of all time won a couple of AIl Irelands. This is the greatest Mayo team most of us have followed, and possibly one of the greatest teams who've played the game in terms of character and sheer determination. I think the player's self-knowledge of their own individual preparations is an exceedingly valuable resource which isn't confined to the guys over 30 - there's a strong core of players very much in their prime who've been around the block and know what it takes, and this is what Horan is picking up. Whatever else anyone says about Horan (and for that matter Stephen Rochford) his teams never lack for physical preparedness, and win or lose they give a performance. I don't think anyone is looking for anything more than this. It's the Dubs who are on the cusp of making history and Mayo like the rest are going to their damnedest to derail that train, because history shouldn't be easy!
