Behan, Paddy

Ardee man Paddy Behan, who passed away on February 20th, 2016, was a St Marys legend. In the ten-year period between 1946 and 1956, Paddy won no fewer than twelve major honours with the Marys - five county senior championships and seven leagues (Cardinal O'Donnell Cups). He also represented Louth from 1951 until '57 and won a Leinster SFC medal in 1953. Paddy collected his first championship medal in 1943 - a Louth MFC medal as a 16-year-old - and he added a second division championship and Ranafast Cup two years later. From 1947 onwards, he featured on seven Cardinal O'Donnell Cup winning teams, including a five-in-a-row from 1952-56. Old Gaels Cup and SFC honours were also won in the treble-winning seasons of 1955 and '56. Paddy earned his five senior championship medals in 1946, '48, '51, '55 and '56. Brother of the great Kevin Behan, Paddy also won numerous Louth SHCs with Naomh Colmcille.
