Replying To Joxer: "Honest question KB, is Jimmy McGuinness involved in the Kerry setup these days? I know he was being touted for a few roles, including Dundalk manager, and sure I haven't seen a blanket like Kerry had yesterday since the great snow fall of 1982. I figure McGuinness must be advising Keane." There must be a rugby league coach involved with Dublin the way they play. The players surely know they can use their feet as well as their hands in the game? And the ball can be moved forwards as opposed to backwards all the time?

Replying To SaffronDon: "I'm afraid Dublin's keep ball is worse than blanket defence tactics. I know most Dublin fans don't see it but try to see it through other fans eyes sometimes. It kills intensity and is extremely frustrating to watch. Dublin are far from my favourite team to watch these days. The chances of seeing a decent match is very slim." It won't be mentioned on RTE, I say it repeatedly it is an ugly game that Dublin play. You are on the attacking 45 and you kick it back to your own 45 because you don't have the nerve to try for a point or drop it on the square, either that or they are instructed by their many coaches not to take risks or be in any way of their own mind to take it on but shur of course this is caveman tactics now according to all the coaching gurus.
If it was an Ulster team that repeatedly did this like Dublin do you may swear RTE would be showing it as being a disaster for the game. High balls dropped into the square win games, it is a tactic that is as old as the game itself, but the coaching masters don't like it as it doesn't justify their existence.

Shur who doesn't go out at 7am of a work day for an aul kickaround with training cones magically placed on the field and the pitch itself up a cul de sac away from the main roads. It was just all a huge misunderstanding. Absolutely laughable some posters criticising Kerry for long ball play winning them so many all Irelands, no skill at all involved of course. Jack O'Shea, the Spillanes etc etc were all aul rooters. Dublin themselves prefer to kick the ball backwards these days and play it in their own half, yet they're the greatest team of all time mar dhea

It's not a big problem this year really but it can be very unfair for supporters and an extra expense for them when things are not done fairly. Also the league is usually played over the early months making travel more tedious for supporters." Well it would be time the Dublin supporters would be out of pocket a bit for travelling outside their boundary

another game ruined by Dublin's backpassing. It is long past time the rules are changed that the ball can't go past the half way line with a backwards pass by the attacking team... and for those who say there isn't a halfway line, well it should be introduced.

Replying To foreveryoung: "While it's almost impossible to argue that the six-in-a-row Dublin team isn't the greatest team of all time, the four-in-a-row Kerry team was also a great team.
That Kerry team played some great football, during their era. Just as Dublin have played so great football over the past 6-7 years. JackO and the Spillane's were certainly not aul rooters, as you put it. Actually, none of that team were. They were all skillful, athletic players. As are the modem Dublin players." It certainly is easy to argue the Dublin team are not the greatest. They have never had to travel to play a tough championship game, are practically semi pro to professional in their outlook and get a vast amount of funding, so much that they don't have to fundraise!

Because he is more than familiar with the minnow side of the Atlantic, he will have no problem identifying the needs of the minnows on this side of the Atlantic, as in our very own, John Horan may have done a reasonable job In a variety of areas, but he failed to address the needs of the also rans. I would ask our new president to at least make an effort to level the playing field." Horan was very poor in the role imo

The terms used originally about sports able to play under level 5 restrictions was 'elite' and 'professional'
It was changed to professional.
Its not discrimination that GAA isnt allowed be played
The GAA was very lucky it was allowed be played before christmas when many other sports that can be considered top level or 'elite' werent when they could be played safely etc even with restrictions" One thing for sure is amateurs playing six nations rugby isn't an elite sport either, yet they managed to get the permission slip. Why was this?

Replying To Viking66: "[quote=AfricanGael: "[quote=Viking66: "[quote=AfricanGael: "[quote=Viking66: "[quote=supersub15: "[quote=AfricanGael: "Until now perhaps. While I admire your endeavors, there is one glaringly obvious flaw in what you propose and it's this, it would lead to low scoring and probably unwatchable games in the run up to it's introduction, for example why would Dublin beat a team by 15 points instead of 5 when they know already that the more they win by the more they will be handicapped when the system was introduced and on the other hand why would one of Dublin's hopeful challengers want to be beaten by 4 points rather than 10 points when they know the latter would benefit them more in the future.
So we would have possibly 3 seasons of terrible games and on top of that then discover that the handicap is totally inaccurate anyway.
It's a practice that has happened on more than one occasion in horse racing when you hear of a horse "being held back" to reduce the handicap and when the time is right , bang, it wins a race at higher odds than it should have been." No matter what changes take place under the umbrella of the gaa they will never be without its flaws and criticisms, so this would be no different, the glaringly obvious flaw that you see could be offset or avoided in how it is set up, yes I could see teething problems popping up in the first year, so fine tuning may be necessary and sobeit.
Like I said previously I would base it on our golfing handicap system with a tweek here and there if necessary, No one has to know anything about the handicaps until they are being made available to all teams simultaneously, their origin would be based on the previous 1, 2, or 3 previous nfl and / or championship performances, all in retrospect.
I wouldn't see this proposal as a means of rewarding a team because its inability to perform, compete, or achieve, similarly, would I see it as a way of penalising a team for being successful or over achieving, rather I would see it as a way to bridging the gap or levelling the playing field, it could be introduced initially and provisionally for a two or three year period.
I have said it before I would not compare the happenings or changes within the gaa to that of any other sport either here or abroad, not comparable full stop.
I pleasantly notice how you analyzed and threw out your concerns, flaws etc, and pointed out its possible failings, nothing wrong with that, I would call that constructive criticism. Compare that to some of our analytical posters here who kicked it into touch before they actually read the proposal. Aka instant dismissal."]The Championship is the competition to determine the champion team, or best team, that year. Not the best team taking in consideration playing numbers, numbers of coaches, whose clubs volunteers raise more or less money, who has better or worse county boards or management teams, who spends more or less on intercounty squads, in other words who has been underperforming or over performing for a myriad of different possible reasons over the last 3 years in whatever competition. It shouldn't be any more complicated than that. Different counties have over the years had great teams come along and some counties have historically had more of these great teams than others in both codes. And especially in the days of straight knockout dark horses occasionally came through and won it out! That's the essence and magic of it. If a terrible team won it purely because some lads sitting around a table or computer in Croke Park decided they should get a 30 point head start because they were so bad it would make winning it totally meaningless. Even to the team that won it."]Ah Jesus no, 30 point head start, even New York could win the All-Ireland with a handicap like that !"]Wouldn't that be the point of a handicap system?"]Not 30 points though, even though Dublin would beat that handicap anyway against New York, the score line would end at about 6-20 to 0-04 if NY were lucky, anytime I've looked at the bookies handicap Dublin have beaten it."]Even in the drawn finals?"]Dublin won't travel outside the county nearly for a championship game, never mind crossing an ocean. And they don't have to fundraise either like the other counties do when they're over there.

In response to dodgy pass can he define how the coaching staff of messrs Mulligan and J Guckian were praised or what were good about their contributions?
I myself don't buy the ego thing...from the players anyway, and I don't accept at that age there should be such a gap in standard with other counties, no matter if we had only five clubs to pick from.
There was nothing about this current set up that was going to work, it was tried before. The question is who sanctioned it to be tried again so soon. Surely there were other coaches that went for this role that might have changed things up.
I saw a tweet saying there were no North Leitrim, South Leitrim or East Leitrim (wherever that is) players on the panel. How is this please? Is there no decent youth footballer to be got from Gortletteragh to Kinlough?

Replying To AfricanGael: "As Tyson famously said "Everybody has a plan until they get punched in the mouth". The facts are the Leinster Championship has been murdered and this notion of attributing blame to other Leinster counties is akin to blaming the victim while letting the perpetrator and their backers off the hook. It shows how farcical the situation is when someone is advising Meath to make a plan on getting beaten by 5 to 10 points ! Wake up people and smell the coffee." It is other Leinster counties fault. They allowed this imbalance to happen, they've let Dublin have home advantage in Croke Park for years, Dublin rarely have to travel. That is down to the other county boards big time. They've said nothing while Dublin get all the funding.
