Kildare SFC: Champions off to a bad start

August 14, 2019

The Sash came out on top in the latest battle between the sides

Kildare champions Moorefield haven’t got off to the best of starts to this year’s SFC as old rivals and neighbours Sarsfields defeated them in a close encounter.

There was just a point to separate the sides at the final whistle as the Sash will be buoyed by defeating their fiercest rivals.

Sarsfields had eight different scorers in a workmanlike performance, while Moorefield relied on Eanna O’Connor for the bulk of their scores.

No doubt, Moorefield will be looking to bounce back in round two, but their defeat will give other teams hope of repeating the same result.

Meanwhile, elsewhere there were a number of shocks in the SFC as Naas lost to Castledermot; Confey defeated Carbury and Maynooth inspired by Neil Flynn came from behind to defeat St Laurence’s.

Johnstownbridge and Athy who are both tipped to go a long way this year recorded wins in their respective games.
