Down goalkeeper Charlie Smyth has moved a step closer to securing an NFL contract.
The 22-year-old Mayobridge clubman will train with the New Orleans Saints this week in an effort to impress their coaches. The opportunity of a lifetime comes after he took part in an NFL Combine last month along with fellow GAA goalkeepers Rory Beggan (Monaghan) and Mark Jackson (Wicklow).
Smyth was the most accurate Irish kicker at the Combine and also converted eight out of his 10 attempts at his NFL Pro Day last week, including one from 60 yards.
TweetNFL IPP athlete Charlie Smyth will work out with the New Orleans Saints later this week per myself, @HoganNFL & @DropkickMangan.
