Cavan v Armagh

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

This is going a hard hitting test of strength especially at the back. Terry has gone for size and I think it looks awesome. As sean rightly pointed out it will be the bench that will win it and don't be afraid to bring them in early. Us by 2..

Best of luck today lads,, my fear is with the line out of the team terry will revert back to the style of play he thinks works , hopefully not and the ball is moved fast into the forwards, !

Big game big crowed excellent day for all Cavan supporters and an excellent result. Now let's work towards our next goal Tyrone. One game at a time it's the way to go.
Congratulations to all involved. Sean

Congrats to all great day. Martin Reilly was immense. Listened to Seanies interview , he's right we have work to do to beat Tyrone but I believe they'll do it.

Well done, controlled the game. Ray Galligan is a great addition in nets. Kickouts are excellent, very comfortable under the high ball (bar the error in first half) and communicates well with the defence.

A strong bench too, which is missing McDermott and Mclaughlin. Cavan will have learned a lot from the League final defeat to Tyrone. It should be an interesting Semi final

Great to win today BUT we have a lot of work to do before we play Tyrone.
Far too much kick and hope today when we had players running on the shoulder or in a better position to take a score. 11 wides. Mackey and Geroid responsible for a lot of them. Far too many fumbles and giving away possession too.
Very soft penalty given against us too today.

Happy with the win but much work to do.

These things need to be worked on.

PS

Thought the referee in the minor match was very poor.

Agree Martin Reilly MOTM for me brilliant throughout the game. Gearoid brilliant first half. Johnston also very good with some good play from Mackey and McVeety. Galligan great game in goals brilliant kickouts and confident under a highball.
Tyrone a big step up.

Great win. Congrats to all. Martin Reilly was immense. Gearoid and Johnston in the first half and great to see Mackey is back to where he was three years ago. Don't really want to pick anyone in particular out. Again well done lads.

Lads Did Marty Morrissey say the Semi is in Healy Park. Where did that come from? I thought it was always a neutral venue????

The head is bursted on me, what a day, I shouldn't have doubted TH and his ability to manage the team and their expectations.

onwards and upwards now, Tyrone diving club next.

A win against Armagh in the Ulster Championship is a good day at the office, thought Cavan looked sharp. Tyrone will be looking forward to what will be a stern test in the semi.

Learning to play as favourites, learning to win as favourites. The next game will define our year and show us how far the team has progressed over the past couple of years. You learn more from a win than a loss so hopefully we can turn Tyrone over in three weeks time.

I hope you don't lol, if you do turn Tyrone over, you'll be the first team to do so this year, though that said we haven't played a lot in terems of opposition so far.
Its not impossible but really is Cavan at that level yet? I think my county is a top 5 team in Ireland, up there with Dublin, Mayo, Monaghan, Kerry. If you do win it will be a major upset but certainly not impossible.

Leicester City springs to mind casmckelly one can dream a dream and they do come on your side sometimes. Yes Tyrone are a good team it would be nice to beat them but it's not the end of the world if we don't, they are one of the favorites to lift Sam this year after all.
Mr Hyland is the second longest serving manager alongside your man Mr Harte who has the winning experiences so yes a big ask from Cavan but let's see what happens. A few tweeks here and there and there might be an upset on the cards.

Great to get the win but don't lets get ahead of ourselves. Stefan Campbell did a lot of harm with not a lot of good ball - surprised they didn't move Rory onto him. Killian Clarke seems to lose concentration at times and then gives away silly frees - can't do this in the full-back line against better opposition. Ciaran Brady must wonder what he needs to do to start. Argue was disappointing again - never got going.

Armagh were very poor. Kernan should have had a black/red card for his attempt to injure Gearoid from behind at the kickout - blatant and showed how Armagh thought what they needed to do to win the game. Should be a panel to look at these incidents and apply retrospective bans. McGeeney was some player but is no manager.

Had the penalty gone in it would have given us a good indication of where this team is but hopefully they would have been able to stand up like the Meath game.

Tyrone will be a much sterner test.

Don't think the Armagh penalty was going to make a big difference. They never looked like winning the game. Cavan scored a point right after that.

I feel your assumption is wrong Foolsgold ?had he scored that penalty it was a 3 point game from a nine point game and at that moment the momentum was swinging Armagh's way. We don't know what would have happened for there would not have been a break up the pitch for starters. No matter a win is a win and long may they continue. It gives a great feel good factor.

I didn't see enough hunger in the Armagh team. They might have got back to 3 had they scored but Cavan looked like they could go up a gear if needed to be.

No Jamie Clarke, Kevin Dyas, Caolan Rafferty, Stephen Harold, and Aaron Kernan retired. They all played big roles when Armagh beat Cavan in 2014.
