Methods To Improve The Cavan Team

Replying To Hardtimes:  "I think Meath are decent and improving. Will be playing Division 1 football next year bar a Devon Loch. But agree with you. People love a moan and have short memories. We've been promoted to Division 1 twice in 2 years. This is not to be sniffed at. It's actually much easier to free fall through the divisions after getting relegated from Div1. Back when we were bottom of Division 3, where we are now looked a world away. People moaned we wouldn't get promoted. When we did they moaned we wouldn't win a game in Division 2. Our players have proved them wrong. Sure we could be better but we're doing the best we can and players deserve a bit better from fans.
This has been a tough season for the team, especially up front with Johnson, McKiernan and COR out from the start. We've done alright though but free taking has probably killed us most. Hopefully we will improve in that regard come Championship but in any case I think we are in good shape for next year.
Just back to Meath, they may be on a par with us or they may have over taken us, but one thing about them, their fans will never write their players off like we do ours. Maybe they have more pride in the jersey."
You're right.

How have we not realised all this before?

We should be delighted to have been relegated on both occasions we've reached division one.

We should be thrilled with the outstanding progress we've made in the Ulster championship in the past few years.

We should be joyous that the "future is blue" predictions haven't yielded anything beyond a net gain of climbing from division three to division two.

We should be thankful that the cumulative senior success of 4 Ulster U21titles has been two brief (and fruitless) stints in division one.

We should be grateful for one Ulster title in fifty years.

We should be proud of having the worst record in all of Ulster in the club championship.

Silly me, I realise I was wrong to aspire for my county to do better, sure at least we scored 1-10 on the Dubs today, what more could we possibly want?

Cavan Gaels have 3 players - Paul Graham, Stephen Murray and Niall Murray
Ramor have 3 - Jack Brady, Conor Bradley and Liam Brady
Castlerahan have two - Oisin Kiernan and Cian Mackey

You also conveniently declined to mention another team who contested the senior final last year and who have a very stron underage setup Crosserlough, how many players have they on the panel."
Gaels have Fortune too. And maybe Johnson?

In fairness he mentioned Crosserlough having seven.

Meath players show more pride. I don't see too many cavan players that would run through a wall for cavan. We have a lot of players who love to look the part. A big problem for Cavan is the goal for a lot of our men is to get on the county team, not what they do when they're in there. In other counties getting on a county panel is only the start.

Hyperbole. This Forum is descending into a farce.

Meath supporters show more pride. Nothing wrong with our players. I've seen plenty of our players run themselves into the ground this year and others. Plenty pick themselves up off the ground and play on injured and hurt themselves more, this year and others. I doubt they look for praise but the least we could do is not run them down. Effort is not the problem. You're stuck in the noughties pal.

Not a moan just what I think. Crosserlough have had one minor championship winning team. I did say they got to the final. Its a very young cavan team I think they could be more players from clubs like Kingscourt Castlerahan ramor who have won championship s in the last few years. Crosserlough have one good year and have 7 players in castlerahan have been been in five finals in six years and have as you correctly point out only two players in and one of them is from meath.

Cavan have been much better than Meath in recent times and we have beaten them in league and championship encounters.bizare comparison.

I would not criticise or fault effort but we need to do some things differently to get maximum retun..will aalways struggle to stay in division 1.

Yeh 20 years in Div 2, we handed them their arse the last 2 times we played them. What are you on about.

cavan remind me a lot of kildare, both counties have great underage teams the last decade but havent done anything with them. kildare still have time however cavan really need to start doing something in championship this year, its a long time since 2011 and the underage breakthrough. meath are not any better than cavan but probablly have more belief in themselves they get a swagger and ego with any type of small success and feeds into winning games they shouldnt. i think of them beating tyrone in 2007 and mayo in 2009 and dublin in 2010. they are only begining to get better minor teams coming through now. if meath had won 4 leinster u21s in a row they would be looking at a possible all ireland senior title and a few leinsters. theres already planning and talk of when and how they can plot a win over dublin in championship, to any other county thats crazy talk for a team only promoted to div 1 for first time in 13 years. that belief is huge in winning big games , meath believe they should be beating dublin a bit like kerry, they raise there game against bigger teams even with average teams but they seem to be getting there house in order at underage. you begin to wonder should cavan be now in middle of there golden spell with a senior team and its not happening

Meath will be bet out of Div 1 next year, make no mistake about it.

Based on what? Cavan beating them a few times has little relevance now. They weren't predicted to go up, but have obviously improved. Played good football last year in the qualifiers against Tyrone.

We will see in 12 months. I'm sick of them been over hyped based on winning all Ireland's 30 years ago. Being over hyped by Cavan men is even more embarrassing.

Great statement sounds like you are jealous of their success but really they are just after getting promoted to Division1 and Cavan are relegated to Division 2 so accept Meath right now are better than Cavan. Also Meath have a far superior history than Cavan and they have every right to be planning for better things ahead and good luck to them. It would be nice if Cavan could talk about more recent Senior All Irelands and as it stands they will not be talking about any in the near future.

i expect meath to go down but they are one of the few teams who would have belief to stay up. even though they were in the doldrums the last 15 years they still got to 2 all ireland semi finals and won a leinster beating dublin by 11 points if any county outside of dublin, mayo kerry and tyrone did that it would be seen as halcyon days. could you imagine the hype in cavan if we acheived that, would anyone care if we beat the likes of fermanagh by a dodgy goal to win an ulster title this summer? or beat tyrone by 11 points?!

No Sean, I won't accept that as it's not true. In my opinion an average Meath team went out all guns blazing in the league. They'll run out of steam in championship and will be relegated next year.

By your logic cavan were better than Donegal last year as they went up and Donegal went down. Yet we know that is nonsense as when they met in championship Donegal won with ease. Hope you can follow that.

Overhyped just like we were since 2012.

I fully understand but remember this Cavan show their hand year on year so what you saw so far this season is what you will see in the championship where as others will be fielding many changes in players come May. I think the predictions that Meath will fall right back down I fear you will regret those words for Meath are coming good and have been working on development and I expect they will over the next few years be back fighting for Sam.

Such negativity from you towards Meath. Very very negative.

But I agree with you that overhype is indeed irksome.

Especially that "The future is blue" phrase that was repeated as nauseum a few years back.
