McDonnell, Tony

The late Tony McConnell from Ashe Street will best be remembered as a star player for Cavan Gaels. Tony was aged 73 when he passed away in June 2011. His father was actively involved in Cavan GAA and was a former County Board registrar and Tony was a prominent member of Cavan Gaels GFC in the 1960s. A regular in the Gaels' defence during the 1960s, Tony helped the club to a second senior league title in 1960, when he was right half back on the team that beat Crosserlough in the decider. He had switched wings for the 1962 league final, wherein Cavan Gaels this time defeated Virginia Blues.
