This year’s Offaly GAA Convention looks set to be a controversial occasion if speculation in the county is true.

The Midland Tribune reports that a group has come together to discuss the way the GAA is run in the county.

Tullamore’s Central Hotel is believed to be the location for the meeting and it is understood that a number of people present are willing to run for positions at the convention.

Attending the meeting were club officers, former Offaly hurlers and footballers as well as other influential figures within the county.

While not much of what was discussed has been divulged, it is believed that the group are seeking a meeting with County Board chairman Tommy Byrne.

The Group did release a statement: A group of GAA people held a meeting last week to discuss the future of Offaly GAA and it was agreed as a matter of courtesy to request a meeting with Tommy Byrne, Chairman of Offaly GAA County Board to discuss issues raised at the meeting. We have asked the chairman of the county board to meet a representative group from that meeting including Michael Duignan, Colm Cummins, Brian Whelehan, Stephen Darby and Dervil Dolan and we are awaiting confirmation for that meeting at the moment.”
