Young Cork man Adam Idah made headlines last weekend when he scored a hat-trick for Norwich City in their 4-2 FA Cup third round victory over Preston North End.

Idah was once a promising Gaelic footballer and hurler with Douglas GAA with his former coach Eddie Murphy explaining to the Echo: “I remember Adam came down to take part in what we call our Street Leagues in Douglas.

“But I would have had an association with him in relation to coaching with Community Games. Adam would have been a part of the team that I would have coached. They went on to win the silver medal at the 2010 Community Games.

“That was one of his first tastes of success at national level. Adam was a very good lad, very talented. He was every bit as good in hurling as he was in Gaelic football.

“Obviously soccer was always important to him. He was involved in great structures, not alone in the GAA but also within the soccer and it stood to him."
