Replying To fredflint:  "In fairness to Mickey, I heard him in an interview on the Radio and he recognised that players were not enjoying playing and that is a big part of what he wants to change. Given that Mickey is saying that then the challenge goes over to the players. Do they want to be remembered as fellas who could have made it if they only put the work in (do they want their kids in the future hearing that) or fellas who played with distinction for Cavan and were respected by the supporters in the county. I know which I would want for me. You are only of an age to play sport at the highest level for 10 years really and I believe a lot of these lads who don't commit will have a lot of regrets in later life if they dont give it a right go."
Fredflint: Mickey can say what he likes it will not wear for players to commit they need a back-room team they can trust. I ask you have Cavan now got that. ????????????????????????????????????.

Both Mickey and his assistant have Ulster Championship medal and numerous county championship medals so they deserve a bit of respect especially from posters here like yourself who never kicked a ball in their life.

Exactly Fred. Spot on. The age window for playing inter county football is very short, it should be an honour and a privilege to wear the jersey. I believe it is a desperate shame that so many are opting out because they are disillusioned with the setup.

So many of the posters on here are missing the point. I'm not saying other counties don't have a player turnover. Of course it's normal. What isn't normal is to have 73 players with Ulster U21 medals in their pockets and just 9 of them playing senior football. How can you expect to do well when 80% the best 73 players in your county at youth level are not playing?

It's how you treat these players that counts. You take for example Kevin Meehan. He was brought into the Senior panel at a young age. When he didn't perform instantly he was discarded, he goes back to his club, works hard . Probably the most improved player at club level. Now everyone is crying out that he should be brought back. But hey Kevin Meehan has a life outside football with his music so he ain't interested. Why should he be the way he was treated. Good luck to him. He's only one example.

The 73 figure is misleading to use. A lot of them were subs and also being a good u21 is completely different to being a good senior. The senior intercounty standard number not playing is a lot lower than that.

Liam Austin had two all Ireland medals along with many county medals look what happened to him. I take nothing away from Mickey and I have wished him well. He has done well in management outside of the town so well done to him. No one will be more happy than me if he succeeds but sadly I feel he is flogging a dead horse if player power are allowed to control the dressing room. Regardless of what I might have done in my young day's does not mean I cannot read the game. I came from a very small club and in my young day's out from juvenile I never won anything true however I excelled at another sport away from the GAA. Do your home work and stop listening to idle gossip. I can stand up to be counted anytime.

Where do you keep pulling this "player power" stuff from?

Give us concrete examples of this player power, or stop posting about it, one or the other.

Yeah do your homework on The Quiet Man. There are numerous books about how he excelled at another sport.

between yourself and mrsmac all you are doing is showing how stupid you both really are. I don't have to explain anything to imbecile's. Look at your county board and see if any of them have achieved in anything.
And yes take your time and do your homework on me one thing you will find I call it as I see and I am not an armchair or a public house critic.

I pressed him on it and he ignored me.

So much for 'standing to be counted'!

If a foreign owner was going to come in and invest heavily in the transfer market for a top flight Cavan club like he did at Leicester, I would think he would choose a team with a better home stadium.

Killygarry the more viable option in that regard I would say.. just ahead of Ramor but they are already fairly active in the transfer market as it is..

Replying To The Quiet Man:  "I agree with some regarding players that opted out but this type player are a cancer in the dressing rooms and the county and any county for that matter are better off without these individuals. Players dictating no one needs them end off story. I would rather be playing division 3 than entertain these people."
Sean. Your opinions on here are by the majority viewed as irrelevant because a Cork man that came up here giving his views on what should and shouldnt be done in Cavan GAA is something us Cavan folk dont really care about.

Still waiting on you to name your club also? I for one know you are not affiliated with one. You maybe on paper but thats as far as it goes.

No disrespect, but the comments from most Cavan people on here are as irrelevant as anyone from any other County. Granted, Sean never played much football, but the man was resident in Breffni Park for over 40 years and living in Cavan a lot longer than that so to say he knows nothing about Cavan Football is disrespectful and ignorant. He knows much more about football than most people in this forum, the majority being armchair supporters or those posting from abroad, riding on other peoples comments, having not attended a game in Cavan for years.

The fact is, Cavan Football is only relevant to Cavan Supporters, no one outside of Cavan gives a toss about it, the reason being, we are no longer the footballing power that we were decades long ago. Our Division One status is not a true reflection of football in Cavan, we are no longer among the elite of the GAA, we are in the same bracket as the likes of Clare and Tipperary and the majority of knowledgeable Cavan Supporters know this, you then have the minority who think that Cavan is full of quality footballers and we should be competing with the top teams.

Spot on Inaroundehouse, far too many experts on here who never played football at even club senior level before yet claim to know it all.
