Wicklow manager Davy Burke was less than impressed by the performance of match referee Brendan Cawley in their defeat to Carlow.

Burke took exception to many of the referee’s decisions during the FL4 clash at Netwatch Cullen Park last Saturday night, claiming that the free count favoured the home side considerably.

This is despite the fact that Carlow were down to 14 men from the first half, but Burke told the Carlow Nationalist that the referee definitely wasn’t on their side.

“I’d be very disappointed with the officiating. I don’t know what the final free count was, but I thought Brendan Cawley was extremely one-sided there,” stressed Burke.

“If you touched Sean Murphy, if you touched Brendan Murphy, if you touched Jordan Morrissey, it was a free. Dean Healy got no luck off anybody. I thought Brendan as a fellow Kildare man – it didn’t work out very well for him, did it?”
