IT Carlow enter tonight’s Sigerson Cup decider against DCU as underdogs but Pat Critchley’s side has defied the odds before.

Holders UCC were spent packing at the quarter-final stage but, speaking to the Irish Independent, Critchley says they will have to improve on last week's semi-final performance against the Michael Murphy managed Letterkenny IT.

“Most people might have seen that as a 50-50 game,” he said.

“We probably didn't play as well as we could. And on Sunday we had a very honest session, all the lads were aware that they didn't play as well as we could have.

“We have a good group, they are good lads, eager to learn. We constantly emphasise the importance of the team and everyone working for each other.”

The IT Carlow boss is well aware of the task that await his team in the capital tonight against the Paddy Christie coached DCU.

“They are very physical and athletic as well as being very good footballers. They are going to be a very big hurdle.”
