Carlow manager Colm Bonnar believes that the scheduling of the Walsh Cup to start before Christmas is a ‘bit crazy’.

Bonnar will lead his charges into the top tier early season competition on December 9th when they take on Dublin. They then play Laois away on December 16th and finish the group stages with a home game against Offaly on January 6th.

Officially, Carlow are not due back to training until December 1st and yet they are meant to play a week later, which Bonnar feels makes no sense at all.

“We have been moved up a grade in the Walsh Cup. It is great for us so we will be playing the likes of Dublin, Offaly and Laois. It will be preparation in terms of giving us an idea of where we are,” Bonnar told the Carlow Nationalist.

“Officially we are not back until the first of December which is a bit crazy with the Walsh Cup in early December. It is important we give a good account of ourselves as we are playing Dublin, Offaly and Laois in the league after Christmas. It is important to lay down a marker for ourselves.”
