Clare will play Kilkenny in the Allianz Hurling League Division 1 final in two weeks’ time after handing Tipperary a 1-24 to 2-13 defeat in Portlaoise this afternoon.

Undefeated in the league campaign coming into this derby semi-final, Brian Lohan’s side registered the first eight points of the contest after a dozen minutes.

Jason Forde helped reduce the Tipp deficit and a Jake Morris goal on 16 minutes had it at 0-9 to 1-3 before David Fitzgerald hammered in the Banner men’s goal in the very next attack.

The strike would help surge Clare towards a 1-14 to 1-7 lead at the half and, despite the Premier men bagging a Sean Hayes goal in the first minutes of the resumption, there’d be no stopping Lohan’s charges on this occasion.

Tipp would get it back to a two-point come the 45th minute, but fell flat with 20 minutes left as they’d only register a single Sean Ryan free as the scores of Aidan McCarthy, Fitzgerald and David Reidy at the other end saw Clare safely over the line.
