Club game abandoned in Wicklow

A hurl and helmet at the ready.

It’s a headline that we have come to see far too often in many counties around the country.

A senior hurling league game between Eire Og Greystones and St Patrick’s was abandoned by match referee Ciarán Manley last week.

Late on in the game, a mass brawl broke out leaving the match referee with little option but to call a halt to proceedings.

Wicklow GAA’s CCC are to meet to discuss the matter and go through the referee’s report with suspensions and fines expected to be handed out.

The Eire Og club released a statement backing the referee’s decision to abandon the game and added that they would fully cooperate with any investigation into the matter.
