Aaron Gillane scored eight points, including three from play, as Limerick defeated Clare in the Munster SHL final at the Gaelic Grounds to claim some early-season silverware.

With a crowd of 3,209 in attendance, the hosts led by 0-8 to 0-6 at half-time before extending their advantage after the break with eight unanswered points between the 43rd and 70th minutes. The success gave John Kiely his first trophy as Limerick manager as Clare were left the count the cost of 16 wides and the dismissal of Jack Browne.

The excellent Tom Morrissey also hit 0-4 for the winners who had opened up an early 0-3 to 0-1 lead before the Banner came back to level. Three unanswered points from Cathal Malone, Niall Deasy and Tony Kelly gave them the lead for the first time after the restart, but Morrissey had the sides level for a fourth time before Gillane and Morrissey fired over the last seven points to settle it.
