It's getting embarrassing at this stage , the refs have too much to do and the black card is not helping. The two black cards today were embarrassing, the stone wall black card was for Bernard's shoulder check but the ref told the Monaghan player to get up as if he was diving. Even if Bernard's was a black card it's too harsh a rule to miss the rest of the game for that. We keep changing rules and imo none of them have made the game any better. I really think it's time to get rid of this silly rule honestly it's helping no one.

Thought Dermo deserved his, less so the Monaghan lad. But Dermo was more a red.

Also the of the of the ball stuff between Cluxton and McCarron was a red and a black, but only two yellows.

I'm a fan of the black card though, it encourages open football and defending without fouling as Monaghan exhibited today. It's the inconsistent application that's the problem.

At the Galway v Kildare game today, Kildare got two black cards and on both occassions they replced both players before the free was taken instead of having to wait till the next stoppage in play. What makes it worse is that one of the Galway players could not continue and the Ref and linesmen would not let the sub in for a number of plays, even though the Kildare player just walked past the official and started playing.

Some very poor umpiring today first off.
the first point we got was wide by a clear distance then a couple minutes later rock scores a free and it's given wide, then into same goal in the second half monaghan kick a free wide and he gives a point.
felt the monaghan midfielder black was clear as day he tripped Fenton intentionally, it was silly and pointless but clear as day black card for intentional trip.
But the inconsistencies of the black card is that dublin were going through for a chance at goal in second half and a trip on the player free awarded and no black card. There were a number of off ball tackles on both sides no black cards. Then Connolly tackles player doesn't hold him with both hands at any stage and gets black card, makes no sense.
Another poor peace of officiating in this game was when Fenton was pushed over sideline, mcquillan signalled a free in to Dublin then went down the other end of the field and carded cluxton and monaghan player then came back up field and forgot he had awarded the free for Dublin and instead monaghan took a sideline ball.
The old refs are human line will no doubt be thrown out but some of these are happning week in week out it's time to improve officiating standards and not make new rules every time they can't get something right.

The impact of the black card on Monaghan was severe as we could ill afford to lose a talisman like Hughes, whose direct approach was causing problems, whereas the impact on Dublin could easily be absorbed such is the strength of their squad. It wasn't why we lost but it didn't help

If I was Hughes I would be asking though why he gave him one and not the monaghan player who tripped Fenton bursting in on goal who also tripped him intentionally as it's the exact same offence, I think that's what frustrates players more that refs are consistent within a game on awarding them never mind from week to week.

Brogan and Hughes committed black card offences. Connollys wasn't even a free. In all three incidents the players went down far too easily but this is irrelevant really.
