It's getting embarrassing at this stage , the refs have too much to do and the black card is not helping. The two black cards today were embarrassing, the stone wall black card was for Bernard's shoulder check but the ref told the Monaghan player to get up as if he was diving. Even if Bernard's was a black card it's too harsh a rule to miss the rest of the game for that. We keep changing rules and imo none of them have made the game any better. I really think it's time to get rid of this silly rule honestly it's helping no one. clondalkindub (Dublin) - Posts: 9926 - 02/04/2017 18:51:22 1974301 Link 1 |
Thought Dermo deserved his, less so the Monaghan lad. But Dermo was more a red. TheUsername (Dublin) - Posts: 4516 - 02/04/2017 19:09:25 1974318 Link 2 |
I agree totally.... If you think that was bad you should see o'sheas pull down of Doherty in the Donegal v Mayo game then doherty kicks out at him (shouldnt have done that and had to go ) gets sent off and o'shea gets a yellow!!!!??? All because the ref had serious making up to do to Mayo and thier supporters after what happened against kerry a coupole of yrs ago... Disgrace and needs to be binned...

Dermo's was a red wtf? It wasn't even a booking , I like the idea of it but it's not working the Monaghan one was a shocker never mind Connollys.

At the Galway v Kildare game today, Kildare got two black cards and on both occassions they replced both players before the free was taken instead of having to wait till the next stoppage in play. What makes it worse is that one of the Galway players could not continue and the Ref and linesmen would not let the sub in for a number of plays, even though the Kildare player just walked past the official and started playing. I don't think O Shea got a yellow for that incident and if you think the ref today was trying to make up for what happened in Limerick, I think he failed miserably. I know I'm biased but I certainly didn't see us get any favours. I'm sure RTEs extended highlights and in depth analysis tonight will reveal all!

The black card was introduced to eliminate cynicism in the game. Yet there were two black cards in the Monaghan game today, a game that was probably the least cynical I have seen played in Clones, in my time any way. Two [physical] teams going hard at it for a win in the modern era where strategy has taken over. This is the type of match all supporters crave and [football] incidents like todays are part and partial of a proper football match [/b.] mhunicean_abu (Monaghan) - Posts: 1067 - 02/04/2017 21:56:09 1974465 Link 0 |
The dean rock free was wide in my opinion. I seen it a few times on reply and I felt it was wide, just. You were at the game I presume so you didn't see reply and it didn't show it on the highlights tonite. Connolly is a fantastic player but when it comes to tackling and disciple. Manager sends you on to make an impact and you get carded. Carey's was the clearest black card of the day. Hughes' was a joke. Barely any contact and I feel Fenton hit the deck very easily. Good win from Dublin, looking forward to game vs Kerry next weekend. The_Fridge (Tyrone) - Posts: 2093 - 02/04/2017 22:19:43 1974484 Link 1 |
I understand the issues people have with the black card but the Hughes black was as stonewall as you're ever likely to see. It was a deliberate trip. I'm starting to think I might have been watching a different game by the way some people are saying otherwise

Brogan and Hughes committed black card offences. Connollys wasn't even a free. In all three incidents the players went down far too easily but this is irrelevant really. Breffni40 (Cavan) - Posts: 12347 - 03/04/2017 14:18:15 1974816 Link 0 |
Black card is good, but rules need implementing across the board consistently. galwayford (Galway) - Posts: 2614 - 03/04/2017 14:26:05 1974823 Link 0 |

How did Dermo deserve his if you thought it was a red? If it was a red ( which it certainly wasn't, was barley and yellow if at all) it can't be a black, completely different offences.
