Sean Finnegan is set to be appointed as Kildare's new ladies football manager just three weeks after stepping down as Westmeath boss.

Kildare LGFA have confirmed that they will be putting Finnegan's name forward for ratification at a county board meeting on Thursday night. The Mayo native's three years in charge of his adopted Westmeath culminated in All-Ireland intermediate success in September.

Working alongside Tommy Carr, Finnegan kept the Lake County in Division 1 of the National League, but they were relegated to the intermediate ranks in 2019. However, after losing last year's All-Ireland intermediate final to current senior champions Meath, they bounced back this year, hammering Wexford in the final to regain their senior status for 2022.

Westmeath have yet to name a successor to Finnegan.
