Crookedwood GAA Notes

Underage Training

We welcomed back our U7 & U9 boys and our U8 & U6 girls to the pitch on Friday evening. We had an excellent turnout with loads of new players picking up a hurl for the first time. It was fantastic to see all the kids having great fun and getting plenty of exercise. We would like to thank the coaches on the night, Niall O’Brien, JJ Flanagan, Enda Cahill, Tommy Casserly, John O’Mara, Hazel Loughrey, Sarah Downes, Ciaran McKenna, Shane McGovern, Oisin Boyle, Feichin Og Brennan. Also, thanks to our Covid supervisors Margaret Loughrey, Alva Whelan and Nicola Mulvaney who did an excellent job creating a safe environment for all. Finally, thanks to Shonagh Savage for her help on the preparation and on the evening itself. We are back again this Friday at 6.30pm start for boys and girls. Also keep an eye for our new dedicated nursery for 4 & 5 yr old's which will launch very soon

The jackpot was not won, and the following were the prize winners: Mark Browne (online), Rita Bardon, Mary Curran (annual sub). Our next draw will be on Thursday 13th May. Like all clubs, normal fundraising activities have been put on hold for the foreseeable future. To that end we are asking all club supporters, near and far to support our lotto as this is the only means we have available to pay the bills. You can now play online via the link; www.klubfunder.com and search for CrookedwoodGAAClub/lotto. It is easy to play and set-up an account if you wish to do so. For smartphone users there is also an app called Klubapp where you can select Crookedwood as your club and play the lotto at the touch of a button. This gives Crookedwood people all over the world a simple option to support the club. We are still accepting cash payments if the online method is not for you. There is also an option to pay in advance for a year, please contact any club member and the paperwork can be posted or emailed to you. Thank you for your continued support.

Condolences

We offer our sincerest condolences to Gerry Butler, and to all the Butler family on the passing of Gerry’s sister Veronica (Vera), Mullingar, who passed away recently.

Walking Track

The walking track will be open and lit up every evening for paid up members to avail of a safe area to exercise. Social distancing guidelines must be adhered to while using the track.

Westmeath GAA

The hurlers began the league campaign on Saturday last with a home game against Galway. Westmeath were minus the service of a few regulars and were comprehensively beaten by one of the main contenders for the Liam McCarthy cup. Hopefully our next outing will bring a better day.
