Drumcliffe Rossa club notes

June 14, 2021

Hard luck to our senior women's county footballers Sinead Regan, Michelle McNamara and Rachel Quigley, who lost out to Kildare in last Sunday's Division 3 semi-final. The Lillywhites included former club captain Siobhan O'Sullivan in their ranks. We wish them well in the league final.

There was no joy either for our men's county players Sean Power and Cian Lally in Portlaoise as Sligo lost out to Wexford in the Division 4 shield final.

Our women's intermediate footballers were beaten by Connacht club finalists St Nathy's in the opening round of the Division 1 league on Sunday morning. It's early days in the season - and for the first time, we are pleased to report that the club is fielding two adult women's football teams this year. We will also be contesting the junior LGFA league.

Our senior men's footballers had their first competitve outing of the season last Saturday evening - in a Benson Cup quarter-final against Ballymote at Corran Park. The game went to extra-time and then penalty kicks. The home side prevailed in the end to progress to the semi-finals. DRP play their opening Division 2 league game this Saturday evening against Castleconnor at Oxfield.

Our junior men's footballers were beaten by neighbours St Molaise Gaels in their opening Division 4 league match at Oxfield last Friday evening on a final scoreline of 0-11 to 0-6.

Our boys U17 footballers made a winning start to their campaign last Monday evening with a fine 2-14 to 1-8 win away to Enniscrone/Kilglass in Quigabar. They host St Mary's this Thursday evening in Oxfield at 7pm.

Commiserations to our boys U14 footballers who were beaten by an impressive Eastern Harps team at Markievicz Park last Monday afternoon in the 2020 County 'A' Championship final. There is lots more to come from this talented group of players, who can take much encouragement from reaching the county decider.

Both our boys U12 teams produced spirited performances in their respective 2020 county finals at Markievicz Park last week. Unfortunately, the results didn't their way (congrats to St Mary's & Ballymote/Bunninadden) - but the future looks bright with this very promising crop of players. Well done to all the players and their coaches on reaching the showpiece games of both competitions.

Our girls U12 footballers made a winning start to their new season last Friday at Oxfield with a win against Calry/St Joseph's.

Well done to our U9 and U11 hurlers who took part in their first ever blitz last Saturday in Manorhamilton. The teams played enjoyable games against the host club and Calry/St Joseph's.

Our boys U15 footballers play St Molaise Gaels this Tuesday evening in Oxfield at 7pm. The U13s play St John's on Friday evening at 6:30pm.

A reminder that we are still accepting old or outgrown pairs of football boots at our ‘swap shop’ during the Saturday morning nursery coaching at Rathcormac NS for the next few weeks.
You can drop them off at our swap shop ‘bins’ which are located at the nursery entrance between 9:30am and 1130am this Saturday. You may also pick up a suitable ‘second-hand’ pair of boots for their son or daughter – for free.
