We were saddened to hear of the death of our former Club Chairman and friend, Kieran McDermott. Our deepest sympathies to his wife Nuala and the McDermott family. Kieran had a long and distinguished association with our club and with Sligo GAA. He was Club Chairman from 1991 to 1994. He was also Patron of Sligo GAA, a former Chair of the county board (1991-1993) and Central Council delegate (1996-2009). He was deeply involved in the re-development of Markievicz Park during the 1990s. It was his original motion proposed at the club’s AGM in 2004, later at County Convention – and then to Annual Congress in 2005, which saw the Association remove Rule 42, which opened Croke Park to other sports. In his youth, Kieran was also a noted athlete – setting a Connacht Colleges record for the 440 yards dash in 1958 – a record which stood for many years afterwards. Due to Covid restrictions, the funeral mass this Tuesday (Jan 19th) at 12 noon is private to family – but it can be viewed online on drumcliffemaugherow.ie.
Condolences also the Kerrigan family following the recent bereavement of Sean Kerrigan. Ar dheis Dé go raibh sé.
