Malone retires from Monaghan duty

Monaghan attacker Dermot Malone has opted to retire from inter-county football on medical advice.
The Castleblayney native made his senior debut for the Farney men in 2010 and would start in both of their Ulster senior football championship final victories in 2013 and 2015.
He was also named ‘Man of the Match’ when Monaghan overcame Galway in the final round of the Super 8s in 2018, helping the team towards an All-Ireland semi-final against Tyrone.
A fans' favourite, Malone’s last appearance for his county came in this year’s Ulster final defeat to the Red Hands at Croke Park.
The reoccurrence of a knee injury is behind his decision to call it a day with Monaghan, although it is believed that he will continue to play with his club Castleblayney Faughs going forward.
