Toome club notes

July 20, 2021

Monaghan GAA: It was a very emotional weekend for all within the county as it was mixed with celebration and devastation all at the same time. The U20's came from behind on Friday last 16th July, to turn the Ulster semi-final against Donegal around and book their place in the Ulster final. Much of this turnaround was attributed to the team captain, leader and friend of these men, Brendan Óg (Ógie) Ó Dufaigh. News filtered out in the early hours of Saturday morning of the untimely death of Ógie, who was involved in a road traffic collision on his way home. This young man was an exceptional talent and leader, captaining both the Minors and U20s at County level. No words can comfort the family, teammates and friends of this tragic loss. All in Toome offer their deepest condolences to the Ó Dufaigh family, Monaghan Harps, Monaghan GAA and the wider circle of family and friends in these dark days. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis.

County: Well done to Monaghan seniors who booked their place in the Ulster final on Saturday last 17th July with a great win and show of strength and determination to overcome a comeback from Armagh. The final will be played in Croke Park on Saturday 31st July at 4:00pm.

Golf Classic: The date for the Toome Annual Golf Classic has been set for Saturday 14th August and we are heading back to Ashfield Golf Club, Cullyhanna. Once again, a Team of 4 persons is set at €160. Please contact Jim McArdle to secure your place on 086 600 0339. We have some great prizes up for grabs including a women's team prize, longest drive, 1st, 2nd and 3rd place prize, spot prize and we will also be holding a nearest the pin competition. Last year this event was a huge success, and it is fair to say all the players who joined us that day really enjoyed it. Apart from being a great day, this event is a very important fundraiser for the Club as we strive to make progress on and off the field. The support shown towards the Club from local businesses was beyond words and we would once again wish to thank all those who supported us last year. Refreshments will be served on the day. Tee box sponsorship is available for €100, if you would like to sponsor a tee box please contact Jim McArdle or Leo McGinn on 085 804 9245. The Golf Classic provides an excellent opportunity to catch up on club matters, entertain clients, family or friends and to meet up after what has been a challenging 18 months to say the least. The Club appreciates any support you can offer for this event, if you would be available to help on the day in any capacity, please let us know. If you wish to enter a team or sponsorship of a Tee Box, please contact Jim or Leo, your support of our Club is greatly appreciated.
