The late Brendán Óg Duffy

Monaghan GAA has been plunged into mourning after their U20 football captain Brendán Óg Duffy was killed in a car crash on his way home from last night's Ulster semi-final win over Donegal.

The tragedy happened when the car the 19-year-old was driving collided with another car on the N2 near Tullybuck, Clontibret at around 11.30pm.

Affectionately known as 'Ogie', Brendán had captained the Farney County to a 3-10 to 1-11 victory in Brewster Park only a few hours earlier. All underage games in Monaghan today have been postponed as a mark of respect.

His club Monaghan Harps tweeted: "Our club is devastated at the news of the untimely death of our senior player and county U20 captain Brendan Óg Ó Dufaigh.

"Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this very sad time. All club activity has been postponed until further notice."
