Every picture … Brilliant Barrett unstoppable

Shane Barrett celebrates one of his five goals against Moynalvey in the 2013 Meath SFC quarter final at Pairc Tailteann.

We bring you back to the 2013 Meath Senior Football Championship quarter final for this one.

Many thought that Na Fianna who had won the IFC the year before would struggle in the SFC especially after been drawn in a group that included Wolfe Tones, Blackhall Gaels, Simonstown, Dunshaughlin and Dunboyne.

But this was a very talented Na Fianna squad and they advanced to the last eight, suffering only one defeat at the hands of Blackhall Gaels.

Moynalvey stood in their way of a semi final spot. Ian Kearney’s charges were also having a great year but they were stunned that evening at Pairc Tailteann by a rampant Na Fianna outfit and in particular corner forward Shane Barrett.

The former League of Ireland soccer player was unstoppable and scored an amazing 5-4 as Moynalvey were beaten 7-10 to 2-10. He scored the first goal after a minute and added another three before the break, one from the penalty spot, as John Lyons’ charges advanced to the semi final.

Barrett had also found the net against Dunboyne, Dunshaughlin (2) and Wolfe Tones (group and semi final).

Na Fianna accounted for Wolfe Tones to reach the final. Sadly for the Enfield, Baconstown, Rathmolyon combination their dream of winning a first ever Keegan Cup was ended by Summerhill in the decider but 2013 will be remembered for that remarkable scoring feat by Shane Barrett.
