Mayo are set to play next year’s entire Allianz League campaign outside of the county due to resurfacing work at MacHale Park.
Mayonews.ie reports that work on the surface will require the county team to relocate temporarily, with no other ground in the county large enough to facilitate the capacity demand.
Work at Mayo's home stadium in Castlebar will not be completed until May, meaning its likely that venues such as Tuam Stadium in Galway, Sligo’s Markievicz Park and Roscommon’s Dr Hyde Park will be considered for use.
Croke Park could also be a venue used by the Connacht champions for certain games during the league campaign.
"We've looked at every possibility but there’s just no way we can host the games," Mayo secretary Dermot Butler said. "We’re now actively looking at alternatives and working with the authorities in Croke Park in that regard.
"We would have to bring in temporary stands and with the crowds expected for those games it just wouldn't be financially possible.
"A lot of work is going on behind the scenes at the moment to help Mayo as much as possible but it will all come down to logistics.
"We'll have to wait and see the draw and the dates and work from there, but the bottom line is that Mayo will be playing all the league games outside the county in 2022."
