Meath priest to referee Louth SFC final

October 27, 2021

Fr. Derek Ryan

A Dundalk-based priest has been appointed referee for Sunday's Louth SFC final between Naomh Mairtin and St Mochtas.

Fr Derek Ryan, who is a member of the Redemptorist Parish clergy, will take charge of the Joe Ward Cup decider less than two years after refereeing his first game in the Wee County. A native of Baconstown in Co. Meath, Fr Derek has handled senior hurling championship games in both his home and adopted counties, while he replaced the injured Cormac Reilly for the closing stages of last Monday's Meath IFC semi-final between Trim and Walterstown.

During his time based in the parish of Furancungu in Mozambique, he arranged for a set of jerseys from his home club of Na Fianna to be donated to the local soccer team. Fr Derek is also a member of the Sean O'Mahony's club in Dundalk.
