League-based football championship wouldn't be more lucrative - GAA's finance department

The GAA's finance department has dismissed suggestions that a league-based football championship could net more for the association annually than the current format in place.
Last night saw county treasurers informed by GAA director of finance Ger Mulryan that a qualifier system in the championship would be financially more beneficial.
Next Saturday week will see delegates voting at Special Congress to potentially change the current format of the All-Ireland senior football championship, with a 60 per cent majority required for a proposal to go through.
The GPA has strongly supported Proposal B, which favours a league-based All-Ireland championship, and this week highlighted its greater financial benefits with more games for every team.
However, the finance department at Croke Park disagree and estimate that a football championship with the qualifiers and the Tailteann Cup, which is essentially Proposal C, would net €19.6m.
