Two clubs from 'divided' parish contest county SFC finals on same day

Did you hear the one about the parish not only 'divided' by two counties but by two provinces - and with two clubs contesting SFC finals in different counties on the same day?

November 7th will be a momentus day for the parish of Loch Gowna and Mullinalaghta on the Cavan-Longford border.

Mullinalaghta, who make up one half of the parish, are set to take on neighbours Mostrim of Edgeworthstown in the Longford SFC final at Glennon Brothers Pearse Park on Sunday week. 'The Laurels' are no strangers to success on the big stage having beaten Kilmacud Crokes to become the first Longford side to claim the Leinster club SFC title in 2018.

At the same time and up the road at Breffni Park, the 'other half', Gowna, will be bidding to end a 19-year wait when they face Ramor United in the Cavan SFC decider. Seven-time winners Gowna are coached by their 1997 All-Star clubman and former Cavan star Dermot McCabe.

Will the tiny border parish with a population of less than 800 people be celebrating on the double next month?
