Having ended a 20-year wait for Laois SFC honours in the Covid-delayed 2020 county final two months ago, Portarlington remain on course to retain the title following their double-scores victory over Stradbally at MW Hire O'Moore Park last night, 0-16 to 0-8.

Four successive points from Jake Foster (2), Colm Murphy and Scott Osbourne boosted the champions into a 0-12 to 0-6 lead at the interval.

Strad' had the benefit of the wind after the break but they were unable to make it count to their advantage as further Foster and Murphy scores kept them at arm's length.

The win sees Port extend their unbeaten run in the championship to eight matches as they march on to the semi-finals in two weeks' time.

Meanwhile, the opening quarter-final between Emo and Graiguecullen, which was also due to take place in Portlaoise yesterday, was postponed as a mark of respect to the late Conor Montague, a former Emo footballer.
