Carlow senior hurling boss Tom Mullally will find himself in an unusual position on Saturday week.

Mullally, brother of former Kilkenny players Richie and Paddy, has guided Naas to the Leinster club IHC semi-final against his home side Glenmore following yesterday's 1-21 to 1-6 victory over Castleknock at St Conleth's Park. Glenmore defeated Ballinakill (Laois) 2-17 to 1-12 in Abbeyleix to set up an intriguing meeting with the Kildare champions on 11 December.

Mullally brings huge experience as a manager, with an impressive CV that includes leading Carlow kingpins Mount Leinster Rangers to All-Ireland club IHC and Leinster club SHC titles while he also previously coached Clara to Kilkenny SHC glory.

Wexford champions Oylegate-Glenbrien await the winners of Clodiagh Gaels (Offaly) and Kildalkey (Meath), who meet at Bord na Mona O’Connor Park next Saturday, 4 December, in the other provincial semi-final. Oylegate-Glenbrien overcame Bray Emmets 5-13 to 1-9 in Enniscorthy yesterday.

Kilkenny title holders Mooncoin got off the mark in the Leinster club JHC following a convincing 3-23 to 1-14 win over St Oliver Plunkett's, Mullingar at Joristown Park.

Tooreen of Mayo will travel to London next weekend for a Connacht club IHC semi-final date with Robert Emmetts after seeing off Roscommon opponents Athleague by 0-28 to 2-7 at Dr Hyde Park.

Dunhill (Waterford) beat Smith O'Brien's (Clare) 0-13 to 0-11 in the Munster club IHC quarter-final at Cusack Park Ennis, while Skeheenarinky (Tipperary) sealed their passage to the Munster club JHC semi-final stage courtesy of a 1-22 to 1-8 success over Tralee Parnells.

In the Ulster club IHC quarter-final at the Athletic Grounds, goals proved to be the difference for the home side Middletown Na Fianna as they edged Castleblayney by 2-18 to 0-18.

Three of the four semi-finalists are known in the Ulster club JHC after Con Magee's, Glenravel (Antrim) defeated Naomh Colum Cille (Tyrone) 2-16 to 1-8, Craobh Rua (Armagh) ousted St Eunan's (Donegal) 3-10 to 2-8 and Na Magha (Derry) accounted for Cootehill Celtic (Cavan) 1-13 to 0-10.

In football, there was no joy for European champions Amsterdam as they fell to St Mark's (3-8 to 1-9) at the first hurdle of the Leinster club JFC.

St Patrick's (Sligo) were comfortable 4-17 to 0-3 winners over St Joseph’s, Kilteevan (Roscommon) in the Connacht club JFC semi-final, while Denn (Cavan) saw off Naomh Comhghall (Antrim) 2-15 to 0-6 to progress to the Ulster club JFC last four.
