The fate of the 2020 inter-county championships hangs in the balance today as the Government is set to debate a recommendation from NPHET to move the country to Level 5 of the Resilience and Recovery Living with Covid-19 plan.

There was widespread surprise last night when it emerged that the National Public Health Emergency Team were advising that the Government take this course of action for a four-week period.

No sport fixtures or training are allowed under Level 5 which would dash hopes of starting the Sam Maguire and Liam MacCarthy Cup competitions on Saturday, October 24 as planned.
